How do you counter conflicting consumer messages over storing cleaning products safely? ?? New research data released by ACI finds that 52% of Americans prioritize safety when it comes to storing cleaning products. ?? However, in the same survey more than 50% of Americans say they plan to, would consider or already store laundry products in decorative jars or clear containers. The data is based on a national survey conducted for ACI by Wakefield Research. The portrayal of unsafe storage of liquid laundry packets on popular social media platforms is a trend that has been increasing in recent years. On the eve of National Poison Prevention Week, ACI offers a timely reminder to take a look around your home to help prevent accidental exposures to everyday products. ACI’s?#StoreNotDecor initiative, part of our #PacketsUp program,?was created to combat the rise of unsafe home organization trends and aims at helping prevent accidents in the home and raise awareness of prioritizing safety over style. #NPPW2025 PacketsUp.com Check out our timely safety tips in our online newsroom: https://lnkd.in/dh7yE6pz

Thanks to Craig Bettenhausen of C&EN for sharing the expertise of our colleague Jessica Ek on the benefits of laundering our clothes in cold water. #ColdWaterSaves coldwatersaves.org
I'm slow on the draw here, but at the recent American Cleaning Institute conference, staffer Jessica Ek shared some new stats about the impact of doing laundry in cold water. I've covered the chemistry of why, these days, most loads will work fine in cold, for C&EN. So I caught up with Jessica in the lobby for a quick Q&A. Read the C&EN coverage here https://cenm.ag/coldwater

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) should adopt a risk-based approach to potential regulation of important disinfectant chemicals and pay heed to existing federal regulations governing them, according to comments submitted by the American Cleaning Institute (ACI). ACI provided feedback to DTSC on its Background Document on Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (QACs) in Cleaning Products and Beauty, Personal Care, and Hygiene Products. QACs are a broad class of diverse chemicals characterized as ammonium cations with various alkyl or aryl groups. They are used in a wide variety of industrial and consumer applications due to a diverse range of properties.? In the comments, ACI: ? Advises that DTSC remain mindful of the preemption by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations on topical antiseptics ?Recommends chemical clustering, as QACs are too diverse to be regulated as a single group ?Points to sources where DTSC can seek additional data on the environmental fate and toxicology of these substances ?References safety decisions made by other regulatory authorities Read on for more details and access to our complete comments in our online newsroom: https://lnkd.in/esYfevBb #CleaningIsCaring
