Today, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced controls on advanced computing chips and certain closed artificial intelligence (AI) model weights, alongside new license exceptions and updates to the Data Center Validated End User (VEU) authorization.

The International Sanctions and Export Control Society (ISECS) will welcome attorneys from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP to discuss how advisors must be export control experts to understand how governments restrict foreign direct investment (#FDI) for national security reasons. In the United States, the “CFIUS” committee screens FDI.?Most other major countries have similar FDI screening.?Focusing on #France, #Germany, the #UK and the #United States, #Orrick lawyers will explain what investors and companies need to know about export controls to know whether filings should or must be made with FDI authorities for foreign investment projects.
