AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company, founded in Birmingham, Ala., in 1905, is a manufacturer of ductile iron pipe, spiral-welded steel pipe, fire hydrants and valves for the waterworks industry, and high-frequency-welded steel pipe for the oil and gas industries. AMERICAN’s diversified product line also includes static castings and high performance fire pumps. The Birmingham plant, located on a 2,000-acre site with more than 60 acres under roof, is home to one of the world’s largest cupolas and the Contiarc, the first-of-its-kind continuous arc furnace. Once complete, the new 36” ductile iron pipe (DIP) potable water main will span 124,600 linear feet, boosting water capacity in the Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, and Lee County areas. As we step into fall and October, Wellness is encouraging employees to get those steps in for our month-long Walktober campaign. Last year, participants walked almost 95 million steps and averaged 6,307 steps daily. We're raising the bar in 2024 and asking participants to aim for 7,000 steps per day until the end of the month.
