We’re fighting for you on Capitol Hill to get a new Farm Bill passed this year – not another extension. Commodity groups and ag lenders banded together and swarmed the Hill, meeting with dozens of congressional leaders to urge that America’s farmers and ranchers need a Farm Bill now. We pushed for updated Title I programs and reference rates that reflect persistent inflation and the rising costs of production, and strong crop insurance safety nets that give you assistance when disaster strikes.

Zach and Mary Ben are co-founders of Bidii Baby Foods LLC, located in Shiprock, New Mexico, and one of our 2024 recipients of the Rural Roots Endowment grant! After developing an indigenous baby food line, the couple recognized the importance of teaching other indigenous farmers to provide affordable and accessible food products in their area. Through their farmers-in-REZidence program, they offer hands on experience, training curriculum, financial management tools as well as mental health and spiritual tools. This unique program is designed to help young indigenous farmers start a successful agribusiness on tribal lands. They are sharing their experience and knowledge to help mitigate the many barriers indigenous farmers face when producing crops on tribal land. Their efforts embody the spirit of the Rural Roots Endowment as an organization focused on future success of farming on tribal lands. Learn more about their program: https://brnw.ch/21wM9jn

The journey of an almond from a sunny California orchard to a grocery store shelf often begins at a family-owned operation like Travaille and Phippen in the Central Valley. Bud Travaille, Dave Phippen and Scott Phippen took on their family’s almond farming and hulling operation in 1980. Over the next four decades, the partners added a sheller, solar panels and almond-processing robots that have boosted efficiency at the operation, which has been owned by the family since 1921.
