Last week there was a convening to talk about the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center and #techhub designation that the center received with Senator Maria Cantwell. The Tech Hub Designation is an incredible opportunity not only for Spokane and Washington state, but for the whole industry. The AAMMC will be on the cutting edge of materials research for Thermoplastic composites at a much larger scale and I’m looking forward to seeing the progress. It was amazing to have so many great organizations like ATC Manufacturing, Blue Origin, Boeing, University of Washington, Impact Washington - NIST MEP, The Machinists Institute and Syensqo sitting around the table to discuss the evolution of aerospace materials and the workforce needed to launch us into the future.

Yesterday, several of our hub members spoke at the Coeur d'Alene Area Economic Development Corporation annual meeting about the tech hub designation we recently received in North Idaho/Eastern Washington. Panelists described the potential impact of the proposed American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, one of 31 tech hubs across the country that were announced last year by the Department of Commerce. On Wednesday, April 10th, Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown signed an Executive Order supporting the city’s economic development strategy around the newly designated American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center (AAMMC) Tech Hub. This commitment from the City of Spokane comes on the heels of our Phase 2 submission to the U.S. Economic Development Administration, who will announce 5-10 winners of $45-$75 million in funding a piece this summer. https://lnkd.in/gxVea8Dg

EDA has released broad information about the Round 2 applications from all 31 designated #TechHubs! Lots of interesting things to learn, including from our own American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center. 5 to 10 Round 2 awardees expected this summer. We need to call on Congress to fully fund the program so that every Tech Hub can move forward. The future of economic development is regional, cluster-based, collaborative, and innovative, and the City of Spokane is helping to lead the way!
