The American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology (AAPdN) was developed to advocate, educate, and allow for collaboration between individuals and professional specialties with a passion for providing the best for children and adolescents. The American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology (ABPdN) is designed to develop specific academy-organized competency in pediatric neuropsychology. The AAPdN was established in 1996 and has been continuously active through a re-incorporation in March of 2004. Once an individual passes the ABPdN examination and becomes board certified in pediatric neuropsychology, their names are placed in a public directory of Board Certified providers. Our Mission The American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology strives to advance the integration of science and practice in the field of pediatric neuropsychology and is committed to equitable and inclusive research, advocacy, education, and the well-being of all children and adolescents. Our Vision To create an inclusive community of scientists, practitioners, and students dedicated to the advancement of the field of pediatric neuropsychology to benefit the health and welfare of all children and families. When the American Psychological Association interviewed me back in September about my work at Morehouse College and my experiences leading up to it, I had NO IDEA what it was for. And to receive this month’s special edition of the "Monitor in Psychology”(#APA’s largest publication) and see this article - it almost gave me a heart attack, for real. ?? I have no words….to be featured amongst THIS group of ten #psychologists..? People I have admired for years and referenced their writings in my classes and cited them in my own writing….? I am #humbled and pinching myself while reminded of our collective efforts to push the needle forward. It takes all of us to address issues of #racialequity. There’s one thing I do want to say. There are so many people who measure #achievements and #accomplishments in such a rigid way. The world is not made up only of people who constantly brag about their accomplishments - there are people who do the work, the necessary work, regardless of who’s watching. Flashy does not necessarily mean substance. I say this to all who have ever said to me and others, “Why you?” when someone recognized our work and contributions we made. So, to anyone out there reading about these 10 people, including me, featured here - please pay attention to the quiet and dedicated folks in your lives who are also making a difference. They may be quiet about their work, yet their work makes a huge difference in our lives. Vandaag start officieel de DCD awareness week! En dat is nodig want te weinig mensen kennen en begrijpen #DevelopmentalCoordinationDisorder. Het belooft een drukke week te worden met maar liefst 3 lezingen en daarbovenop nog heel wat activiteiten met onze Dyspraxis vzw. Dinsdag verzorgen Griet Dewitte en ik een infodag over DCD doorheen het leven bij Sig vzw. Vrijdag ga ik spreken op het congres voor loontrekkende kinesitherapeuten van ABSG Kinepedia. En zaterdag organiseren we met Dyspraxis vzw een workshop voor ouders van kinderen met DCD en bijkomende taal/spraakproblemen. Maar ook kleine dingen kunnen het verschil maken! Wat denk je bijvoorbeeld van deze kleine flyers die ik achterlaat in onze lunchruimte op Vakgroep Revalidatiewetenschappen UGent? Wat doe jij om DCD op de kaart te zetten deze week?
