Now trending in the latest issue of the Pain Medicine Journal: A recent scoping review from Matthew Rong Jie Tay, MD, Nimish Mittal, MD, Samantha Yao, BSc, Jordan Farag, MD that explores chemical neurolysis of the genicular nerves as a promising option for managing intractable, non-cancer knee pain. This comprehensive review synthesizes available research on the effectiveness, procedural techniques, and potential adverse effects associated with this targeted approach. Key Insights: 1?? The review includes 8 studies with 192 adult patients, providing a focused look at outcomes from using chemical neurolysis (via phenol or alcohol) to alleviate knee pain and improve function. 2?? Both fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance were used across studies to accurately target nerve sites, with results indicating consistent improvements in pain and function.
