Communication was challenging in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Many of us cannot imagine a day without the internet, email, and smart phones, but AAACN continued to advance it’s goals despite communication challenges. Barbara Ragland White (1984 President) explained: “Back in the 80’s there was no internet, and so some of us worked at University settings that have libraries with journals, and we would summarize articles that we could find that might be relevant to ambulatory care nursing practice and publish those summaries in the Newsletter.” Newsletters would then be mailed to members eager to identify effective care models.
