Providing highly trained service dogs free of charge to veterans and first responders with disabilities, free of charge.

关于我们

America’s VetDogs? began in 2003 as a project of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind to consolidate and increase our outreach to veterans of all eras. In 2006, it became a separate 501(c)(3) corporation. VetDogs provides guide dogs for veterans who are blind; service dogs for those with other physical disabilities; physical and occupational therapy dogs to work with amputees in military and VA hospitals; and combat stress control dogs to be deployed in theater. All of our services are provided at no cost to veterans, and our funding comes from the generous contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service and fraternal clubs. For a veteran with a serious limb injury, amputation, or traumatic brain injury, a service dog can provide stability support climbing up and down stairs or getting in and out of a chair, and can be trained to fetch and retrieve specific items, e.g., medication, a wallet, or a phone. For veterans with seizure disorder, dogs can be trained to alert for seizure response.

Last year, 2024 Citizen Honors Community Service awardee America's VetDogs recognized the Congressional Medal of Honor Society by naming a 9-week-old Labrador Retriever and future service dog "Honor." This is Honor now! America's VetDogs works to improve the lives of veterans and first responders with disabilities by matching them with dogs that best suit their needs, including their mobility, personality, lifestyle, and physical needs. We respect and appreciate their ongoing dedication to the men and women who have given so much to our country. Thank you for your service, Honor!

Welcome to the Air National Guard Readiness Center, Second Lieutenant Bailey! ???? Bailey joins SGT Cleo as a facility dog at Joint Base Andrews, providing animal-assisted therapy to personnel. Together, they make their rounds throughout the week, promoting wellness and stress management in a demanding work environment. Their presence brings comfort, connection, and a sense of calm to those who serve. Bailey’s enlistment ceremony was made even more special with a visit from local facility dogs Sully H.W. Bush, Charlie, and Bond. We are proud to see Bailey take on this important role. ?

America’s VetDogs returned to Capitol Hill, continuing to make a powerful and lasting impact! Our president and CEO, John Miller, Puppy Advisor Melissa Harrington, and future assistance dog in training, Delila, met with the U.S. Mint to begin the first steps in designing the Working Dog Commemorative Coin series. The Coin series will celebrate the vital role of working dogs in our society and is scheduled for production in 2027. While in D.C., America’s VetDogs also had the honor of briefing the President’s team at the White House on the Working Dog Commemorative Coin and sharing the impact of our mission and programs for veterans and first responders. Employee Spotlight: Mark B. ?? Meet Mark B., a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI) celebrating 20 years with the Guide Dog Foundation! ?? He began his journey working with dogs as a trainer, leading him to discover clicker training and other various methods. That passion brought him to the Foundation, where he has made a difference ever since. Before becoming a GDMI, Mark was part of our whelping team, caring for newborn puppies. One unforgettable moment was when a litter of 13 golden retrievers were born; but there was one runt in the litter that Mark was drawn to. The pup was given the name Annie, and though not expected to survive, Annie defied the odds and lived a joyful 13 years. Mark will always be grateful to the Foundation for the chance to share his life with such a special dog. Mark’s favorite part of his job is seeing clients thrive with their guide dogs and knowing he contributed to their success. VD: The image is an Employee Spotlight feature for Mark B., a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor at the Guide Dog Foundation. The background has a pattern of paw prints in soft pastel colors, including blue, beige, and pink. At the top, "EMPLOYEE" is displayed in bold, navy blue capital letters, with "Spotlight" written in an elegant, cursive white font overlapping it slightly. Below the text is a photograph of Mark B., who is smiling and wearing sunglasses, a black winter jacket with an America’s VetDogs logo on the sleeve, and a gray beanie. He is crouching beside a black Labrador Retriever in a guide dog harness. They are outside of the Training Center. At the bottom, a navy blue banner contains white text that reads: "MARK B. Guide Dog Mobility Instructor"
