关于我们
America’s VetDogs? began in 2003 as a project of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind to consolidate and increase our outreach to veterans of all eras. In 2006, it became a separate 501(c)(3) corporation. VetDogs provides guide dogs for veterans who are blind; service dogs for those with other physical disabilities; physical and occupational therapy dogs to work with amputees in military and VA hospitals; and combat stress control dogs to be deployed in theater. All of our services are provided at no cost to veterans, and our funding comes from the generous contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service and fraternal clubs. For a veteran with a serious limb injury, amputation, or traumatic brain injury, a service dog can provide stability support climbing up and down stairs or getting in and out of a chair, and can be trained to fetch and retrieve specific items, e.g., medication, a wallet, or a phone. For veterans with seizure disorder, dogs can be trained to alert for seizure response.

?? Important Update: The Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act Has Been Signed Into Law! ?? The President of the United States has signed The Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act into law, recognizing the impact of working dogs on lives nationwide. This milestone was achieved thanks to the dedication of America’s VetDogs graduates, volunteers, and supporters, who advocated tirelessly for this legislation. Introduced in 2023 by Representatives Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and Jim McGovern (D-MA), and later by Senators Ted Budd (R-NC), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), the bill gained bipartisan support, including strong support from Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), as well as the Long Island Congressional Delegation, representing the community where America’s VetDogs is headquartered. Thank you, Danielle, for your hardwork and dedication to our mission! ??????
Meet Danielle P., one of our Major Gifts Officers in the Development Department! Danielle joined the Guide Dog Foundation and America's VetDogs last fall, excited for a new chapter and the chance to make a difference. Danielle’s favorite part of the job is seeing firsthand the impact our assistance dogs have on graduates and hearing their stories. ?? One of her most memorable experiences was meeting a longtime puppy raiser who shared a story about a veteran’s life being saved by one of the dogs she raised. Danielle loves traveling and exploring new places when she’s not hard at work or volunteering as a temp home for some of our pups. Follow us on LinkedIn for more to stay up to date with all things GDF/AVD! ?????? The graphic reads “Employee Spotlight Danielle P. Major Gifts Officer.” Danielle is pictured smiling next to a handsome black lab. #guidedogfoundation #americasvetdogs #employeespotlight #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitlife #employeeshoutout

Did you know? Many of our service dogs start their journey in our Prison Puppy Program! At around eight weeks old, our puppies join one of the 14 partner facilities, where they’re paired with an incarcerated individual in good standing who helps them develop the skills to serve veterans and first responders with disabilities. But they don’t stay there full-time! Every weekend, they go home with a weekend puppy raiser for socialization, giving them well-rounded experiences to become confident service dogs. Archie had such a fun night at his FIRST Utah Hockey Club game! He spent the night meeting players, fans, and even was on the Jumbotron. ?? Archie is the Utah Hockey Club’s first puppy with a purpose. He will be training with the team to learn all that it takes to become a service dog for a veteran or first responder in need. ?????? #americasvetdogs #servicedog #utahhockeyclub #hockeydog #veteransupport
