Retirement That is a Wrap. After 42 plus years in the import business it is time for the next Chapter. It has been a long rewarding ride. Olive Oil is an excellent product. I am proud to be associated with a healthy product. It is important to thank the mentors in my career. My first position was with Mallor Brokerage in NYC. Joe Mallor taught me to come to work every day ready to make a deal no matter the size, 25 cases, anything just make deals. My career at Camerican, I was lucky enough to be mentored by Joel Abramson and Norman Oppenheimer. Both were remarkably successful, and they taught me how to trade imported items, take chances and develop supplier relationships. It was the cornerstone of my development. Before AMD OIL SALES, I was fortunate enough to work for Joe Taormina. The most decent and compassionate person. Joe took a chance on me. He helped me form the ability to run my own business desk. It was invaluable in gaining the confidence to start my business. In 1997 Anthony (A) Basile, Mike (M) Gagliardo and myself (D)started the company. Their support and vision were fundamental to our growth. As time went on Mike's sister and Anthony's children helped to continue our growth. In the mid 2000’s we partnered with Dan Devico and David Bensadoun to continue our ever-growing volume. How lucky I was to have these people in my life and career. I cannot express my gratitude and love for them. Mike's premature passing in 2011 is ingrained in my mind. I miss him terribly. Then recently David passed too young. They were the two most energetic and intelligent people I came across in my career. They left an indelible mark on my being. A big Thank You to AFI members, NAOOA members, my Vistage coaches and group members. All were vital to my personal growth and the development of my leadership skills and naturally the company. One of my lingering memories will be of my travels to see suppliers. SIAL and ANUGA were always highly informative. But I enjoyed the visits to the plants, towns, and cities where the supplier had roots. Our business strength was our close personal relationship with our suppliers. Those relationships will be with me forever. Izmir – Ayvalik – Sfax – Tunis – Spoletto – Perugia – Meknes – Barcelona – Lleida – Murcia – Jaen – Granada – Malaga – Antequera – Cordoba – Seville are just a few of the wonderful destinations I have visited multiple times. Obviously, AMD could not have continued growing without the dedicated employees. They bought into building a business with great process and thoughtful effort. I will be forever grateful. Most importantly, I need to thank my family. My two children Chris and Julianna. They have grown to be simply great people. Of course, none of this would not have been possible without my wife Margaret (42 years married). It was a wild ride. Onto traveling and spending Quality time with my family and spoiling my grandkids.

Dynamic Person , gone too soon
It is with deep sadness that we share that David Bensadoun, Co-CEO of Pompeian, passed away on July 26, 2024, after a valiant and determined battle with cancer. David passed away at his home in New York surrounded by his parents, children and loved ones. At Pompeian’s helm, David inspired and led The Olive Oil People – a team of hundreds of farmers, craftspeople and staff here in Baltimore and around the world. David was loved and respected for his uniqueness, enthusiasm, boundless energy, values and wisdom. His passion for helping people eat and live well served as the heartbeat of our company, and his integrity, strength, and love are part of the immense legacy he is leaving— as well as his beautiful children, his countless friendships, and deep love for us, The Olive Oil People. A celebration of David’s inspiring life will be held at the Pompeian Baltimore headquarters in early August.
