Wow! On Tuesday night, my book Self-Promotion Without Social Media?took out the prize for best Communication?+ Sales book at the Australian Business Book Awards. ??
I've long admired the ABBAs for their dedication to the local small business industry (not to mention their commitment to running it as an NFP and supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation with a hefty donation every year).
In 2019, the first year of the awards, my previous book Graphic Design Speak was a finalist. So to take out the prize this year in such a competitive category feels super special.
More humbling was judge and awards co-founder Andrew Griffiths calling my book?"Innovative... [A] great idea, and beautifully executed."
And to make my face beam even more brightly (pretty sure I could be seen from outer space at this point), not only was the SPWSM cover a finalist in the Best Cover Design category, but the cover I designed for?Lizzie Williamson's book The Active Workday Advantage won that category! And book of the year, Leading Wellbeing, by Fleur Heazlewood? Designed that one too.
It was the best day.?I still love this job even after 20-something years playing with fonts and colours and arranging them neatly in a rectangle.
Anyway, as I say in the book: enter awards. Finalist, winner, or not – some very nice and influential people will see it.
You might even surprise yourself with a win!
P.S. My book, and Lizzie's and Fleur's books, are all available at bookstores and retailers nationally and online.
