It can be all too easy to think it's not a big deal putting oil and grease down the drain...until it's staring you in the face. Meet Carl, a pesky oil & grease blob formed from the depths of the storm drain. He's a little clingy and very annoying. The City of Durham used this creative approach to encourage citizens to keep Carl away by disposing of your oil, paint, and grease properly. Well, we're back at it again with the talking inanimate objects! ???? This time, we meet a silt fence named Rosie. She's having a little issue with some runaway sediment and asks a local jogger to help her out. At first, the jogger doesn't think she has time to lend a hand, but once she realizes how easy it is to call the pollution hotline, she's happy to help! That's exactly the message the City of Durham wanted to communicate: It's easy to help! So often, people think they may not have the time or even if they'd like to help, they might not know how. These are often the barriers between awareness and action. The bridge in between is education! Thanks again to McAdams for being our educational experts on the matter. If more citizens know that Durham has a pollution hotline they can call, and that the city will handle the rest, they'll be one step closer to a cleaner community! It's spooky season and the only thing scarier than a talking pile of leaves is yard waste entering our storm drains and polluting our waterways! *collective shudder*???? We're happy to finally share this fun piece we made with McAdams, part of a broader campaign for the City of Durham's Stormwater division. Like our favorite little phrase 'Make it Worth Watching' says, we don't want important details 'falling through the cracks' online. Making PSAs memorable, shareable, and enjoyable helps important information 'stick' better in citizens' minds and ultimately helps our community achieve its environmental goals faster.
