The Special Education Department recognized 3 staff members and 1 community partner with ACUSD Challenge Coins at the May 8 board meeting: Nina Machado, Renate Keller, Christine Kiekhaefer, and Stacey Herrera. Dr. Sadie Hedegard, Assistant Superintendent of Special Education, presented a coin to Nina Machado from Amador First 5: "We are so appreciative of the collaboration that exists between our two agencies. Ms. Machado donates time to us and serves on our MediCal collaborative, and tonight, I would like to thank Ms. Machado for her commitment to the greater Amador community." Dr. Steve Russell, Director of Alternative Special Education, presented a coin to Renate Keller: "Renate works as a job coach at our Workability Program. She works with Amador High School, Independence High School, and North Star Academy, and as of this year, we also asked her to help out with the Shenandoah School. She has done a wonderful job and we appreciate all she has done." Joshua Brock, Director of Special Education for ACOE, gave a coin to Christine Kiekhaefer: "Christine is an exceptional member of our team who serves at a lot of sites and gives her all each and every day for our students. She's an all-around great human being to know and to work with." Johnathan Murray, Director of Special Education for ACUSD, gave a coin to Stacey Herrera: "Stacey's colleagues describe her as a wonderful person, a dedicated employee who can be counted on, and also a team player who truly goes out of her way to help staff, students, and families."

Two staff members from our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) were recognized with ACUSD Challenge Coins at the May 8 board meeting! Brianna Cadotte, Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Supervisor, gave Challenge Coins to Cayden Hansen and Catherine Simmons. Ms. Cadotte shared the following statements about the staff she selected: "Cayden has consistently surpassed expectations of everything an ELOP instructional assistant could be. His dedication, professionalism, and selflessness have been instrumental in maintaining a cohesive and harmonious atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected. "Catherine exemplifies the very essence of empathy and determination. Her compassion for others and dedication to making every student she comes in contact with feel seen and heard has truly transformed the atmosphere of our program at Sutter Creek Primary School."

Three of our State Preschool Program staff members were recognized at the May 8 board meeting with ACUSD Challenge Coins! Jeni DeWalt, director of Child Development, gave Challenge Coins to Jessica Vaughn, Tamaran Hollingsworth, and Chloe Morris. Mrs. DeWalt shared the following statements about the recipients: "Jessica has built not just an amazing preschool program at Pioneer Elementary, but she demonstrates the characteristics we strive for every day. Jessica understands how to combine learning and fun for her students. "Tamaran's positive and calm demeanor are reflective in the flow of her classroom and her students take their cue from her. She is kind and compassionate with her students, families, and staff. "Chloe's hard work and dedication demonstrates her integrity. The relationship she has built with fellow staff and students is very evident in her relaxed, positive, and happy approach to any task she is given throughout the day." We are celebrating Adult Education Week (April 7-13)! ?? Today, we would like to highlight 2 amazing staff members who are currently teaching our U.S. Citizenship classes: Gladys Bell and Theresa Guadagnolo. The U.S. Citizenship course is new this year, and 11 students are enrolled in the current cohort! Courses are 100% free and allow students to prepare for their Immigration Naturalization Interview and Exam. Thank you to Gladys Bell and Theresa Guadagnolo for teaching this class and contributing to our many Adult Education offerings.
