Another summer Metro Detroit Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy concluded last week, and our last one for the year will be held next month.
The ACE Program aims to offer first-level exposure to the aviation industry by allowing high school students to explore a career in aviation. Academy participants learn about aviation history, theory of flight, and other aviation-related subjects.
Each student received a free drone, rocket, and model airplane and learned about emerging aerospace careers. Students also assembled the model airplanes they received and conducted research on their plane’s history. They practiced public speaking by presenting facts about their airplane to the audience of students and volunteers. Students learned about career readiness and further developed their communication skills by participating in mock interviews conducted by volunteers from the FAA. Following the mock interviews, students received constructive feedback to help them prepare for future job interviews in the near and distant future.
This wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers and sponsors.?I want to thank our newest volunteers and sponsors: Lori M. Ballard, M.S.A., Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC), Detroit Chapter President; Courtney Ballard, AMAC; Tony Stevenson, Detroit Chapter President, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., SkyWest Airlines, and Jasmine Roberson, Program Manager.
