To close out Black History Month, let's celebrate Rochester's very own Tamara Minter! Tamara believes in the power of storytelling to ignite change. As a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association, she shares the toll that Alzheimer’s has had on her family. Tamara’s great grandmother, grandmother and mother all displayed signs of the disease towards the end of their lives. Tamara uses her experience to connect with others impacted by Alzheimer’s and to serve as a resource for those who have questions. Through her volunteer work, she also raises important funds and awareness and grows support for legislation that would benefit the Alzheimer’s and dementia community. Learn how you can join Tamara in making a difference: alz.org/volunteer. #BlackHistoryMonth #ENDALZ

Alzheimer’s isn’t a red or blue issue — it is purple. What unites us all is our shared vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association has been monitoring and evaluating developments in the national landscape. The current and proposed cuts in federal and state funding and resources raise significant concerns. These changes could have far-reaching negative impacts on the millions of Americans affected by dementia and the future of Alzheimer’s and dementia research. Alzheimer’s is not just a personal tragedy, but a growing public health crisis. Policymakers must continue to prioritize the well-being of the nearly 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, their 11 million caregivers, and the millions more who will be impacted by dementia in the coming years. We’re taking action in ways we believe can make a difference, including addressing misinformation, collaborating with the research community, and partnering with others to ensure robust and sustained federal research funding and that Congress upholds our nation’s strong commitment to combating Alzheimer’s and dementia. Help us ensure the voices of people living with dementia and their caregivers are heard. Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to reaffirm their commitment to the Alzheimer’s community. https://bit.ly/alzaction

Alzheimer’s and dementia have had a deep personal impact on Dr. Deborah Stamps. She has seen the emotional toll the disease takes on families, including her own. Dr. Stamps is passionate about advocating for early diagnosis and for providing culturally relevant resources for families, especially those in underserved communities that are disproportionately affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. She serves as the First National Vice President of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc., an Alzheimer’s Association national partner. “Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. is built on a foundation of service and advocacy, particularly for underserved communities. Our partnership allows us to amplify awareness, provide culturally appropriate education, and connect families to essential support services.” Join us in thanking Dr. Stamps and Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. for their partnership in the fight to #ENDALZ. ?? #BlackHistoryMonth

Join us on March 11 for this free virtual program for healthcare professionals, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association and the Gerontological Society of America. Disease modifying anti-amyloid therapies show promise in slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. But as we enter this new era of therapeutic options, it is vital to share real-world experiences. Panelists Dr. Tinatin Chabrashvili, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and Dr. Nikhil Palekar, Stony Brook University, will highlight emerging research, provide insights into the new therapies, and offer perspectives on implementation approaches in a discussion moderated by Jennifer Pettis, MS, RN, CNE, Gerontological Society of America. https://lnkd.in/eyNrDq9U?

Arnesia Terrell served as a virtual caregiver for her grandfather until he passed away from Alzheimer’s disease in 2017. Her family's journey with the disease is what led to her involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association. Now, Arnesia volunteers as a community educator, AIM Ambassador, and participates in Walk to End Alzheimer’s and The Longest Day. Arnesia chose to volunteer because she believes in supporting our mission. She shared that “volunteering spreads awareness and in return, we gain a forever family built in the volunteer network the Alzheimer’s Association has created.” #BlackHistoryMonth #ENDALZ
