  • Happening Now: Delaware Alzheimer's State Advocacy Day which serves as a platform for individuals, caregivers and advocates to voice their concerns, share personal stories, and call for action to address the challenges faced by all those affected. This day empowers advocates to meet with their legislators to discuss the importance of public health funding for a proposed Alzheimer's disease awareness campaign and the need for private insurance and Medicaid coverage of biomarkers -- vital steps as we seek to live one day in a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia. We were also honored to remember the contributions of long-time advocate, Carol Reilly, with members of her beloved family. We thank all legislators who took time to meet with, and listen to, the voices of our passionate advocates who represent all Delawareans, including but not limited to our Alzheimer's Champions, Senator Spiros Mantzavinos and Representative Kendra Johnson as well as Governor Matthew Meyer and Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay. #ENDALZ

  • This week we honored Michael Williams, long-time volunteer and former caregiver for his mother, for more than 12 years of volunteer support for the Delaware Valley Chapter. During his time, Michael helped launch a support group specifically for men caring for their spouses -- a group which continues?to meet regularly -- and he has served in various roles including Community Educator, Community Representative, and Faith Outreach Representative, among many others. Please join us in celebrating the local impact made by Michael, and we look forward to seeing the broader impacts he'll help shape in working with our National Care & Support team. • During #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re honoring some of the incredible women who have put their voices and hearts behind the fight to end Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Pauline Phillips, the women who you may know as Dear Abby, was never afraid to bring tough topics into public discussion. Alzheimer's disease was no exception. She gave a voice to those living with Alzheimer’s in the early days of the Association, and remained a strong advocate throughout her life. In 1980, long before her own diagnosis with this devastating disease, she brought dementia into the spotlight when she published a letter from a woman who had recently learned her 60-year-old husband had Alzheimer's. Dear Abby's reply began with her most important message: You are not alone. She directed the woman, “Desperate in New York,” to the newly formed Alzheimer’s Association. Within two weeks, the association was inundated with more than 22,000 pieces of mail requesting information. Dear Abby put Alzheimer’s disease in the public spotlight, and reassured everyone living with the disease, and those they loved, that they were not alone. In honor of Dear Abby and all of those who her legacy has helped, we continue to fight. #ENDALZ
