Today we introduce Ashley Lunkenheimer as a 2025 Party In Purple Host Committee member. Ashley serves as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel for AmeriHealth Caritas and shares that she is honored to participate with the mission in this special way. Ashley's late father-in-law, Maurice Crandall, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and it was devastating for her family to witness the effects on such a wonderful, gregarious, full-of-life person. "I dedicate my work to the caregivers--in particular, my mother-in-law, Betty Crandall, who is one of the strongest and bravest people I know." To learn more about this year's Party In Purple Mission Impact Gala and join Ashley in making a difference, visit https://lnkd.in/exUjTiY6. #ENDALZ #PartyInPurple

Delaware advocate and former caregiver Glen Gray penned a letter to the editor highlighting the importance of legislative support for the Credit for Caring Act. The bipartisan Credit for Caring Act will create a nonrefundable federal tax credit of up to $5,000 for eligible family caregivers. This tax credit would offset the cost of some caregiving expenses, such as a home health aide, adult day services, home modifications, respite care or other supports that help caregivers and their loved ones. We thank Glen and Daily State News/BaytoBayNews.com for shining a light on this important subject. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ev-x-zZt

During #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating the life of the iconic B. Smith, who the world lost to Alzheimer’s in 2020. B. was one of the first Black models to grace the cover of Mademoiselle magazine and continued breaking barriers as a restaurateur and lifestyle guru. After learning she had early-onset Alzheimer’s, B. bravely shared her journey with Alzheimer’s disease, helping to fight the stigma that can come with the disease. We’re forever grateful for her work as an advocate for those living with Alzheimer’s. #ENDALZ

As we continue #WomensHistoryMonth, we start by honoring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Throughout her life, Justice O’Connor stood as a trailblazer, both as the first woman on the Supreme Court and as an advocate and caregiver for her husband John, who lived with Alzheimer's disease for nearly 20 years. In 2018, she bravely shared her own diagnosis of “dementia, probably Alzheimer’s disease,” in a letter to the American people. Justice O'Connor worked to ensure caregivers and those living with dementia were represented and their voices were heard, even after stepping down from the court in 2005 to spend time with her husband. In 2009, she served as a member of the Alzheimer’s Study Group, whose report helped make Alzheimer’s a national priority. Her years of work as an outspoken advocate for those living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia continues to inspire action, advocacy and change, and her voice remains as an enduring example in the fight to #ENDALZ.
