Conquering Alzheimer’s Through Drug Discovery. Founded in 1998 by Leonard A. Lauder and Ronald S. Lauder, the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) was one of the first charities to adopt the venture philanthropy model. Our mission is to rapidly accelerate the discovery of drugs to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. We are the only charity focused solely on supporting new drugs for Alzheimer’s. The ADDF’s in-house team of six expert neuroscientists identifies and funds the most promising research initiatives around the world. They work to ensure that every viable option to prevent or treat Alzheimer’s is explored, and that the pipeline of drugs in development for Alzheimer’s is both diverse and robust. Since 1998, we have awarded over $100 million to fund more than 550 Alzheimer’s drug discovery programs and clinical trials in 18 countries. Today, 20% of all treatments for Alzheimer’s in clinical trials have received support from the ADDF.

Howard Fillit, MD, in his conversation with AARP, highlights the importance of targeting age-related pathways, particularly inflammation, as potential strategies for developing new treatments for Alzheimer's that can be used in combination with the anti-amyloid therapies. #Inflammation, in particular, is being studied as a promising target for new drugs aimed at slowing down or halting the progression of the disease. By addressing the biological changes associated with aging, the goal is for Alzheimer's to be treated with a combination of drugs that can be personalized based on each patient's individual #biomarker profile.

Progress around novel therapies informed by the biology of aging continues at CTAD Clinical Trials on Alzheimer's Disease. ADDF-funded Coya Therapeutics, Inc. reported positive results from their phase 2 trial of a novel drug that aims to enhance the function of regulatory T cells, which suppress #immune responses, showing the drug was safe and well-tolerated in #Alzheimers patients. This is one of many drugs in development that has the potential to be used in tandem with #antiamyloid therapies, moving us closer to treating Alzheimer's with a combination therapy approach. #CTAD24 https://bit.ly/3NKNIde via Reuters
