Educating and helping others has been a lifelong passion for Evelin Miranda. After 25 years in the classroom, Evelin retired from her teaching position and stepped into a primary caregiver role for her husband. Today, she empowers her community by sharing her experience as a caregiver, fundraising to strengthen the fight to #ENDALZ and advocating for public policies that advance disease research and support those impacted. Dr. Adrianna Nava is a registered nurse and immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), the nation’s leading professional society for Latino nurses. Through her experience in these roles, she has seen the impact of Alzheimer’s and dementia on both patients and their entire support system. Dr. Nava understands the unique challenges Hispanic Americans face in accessing information on Alzheimer’s, getting connected with care and support resources and playing an active role in dementia research. Hispanics are 1.5 times more likely than Whites to have dementia, which is why Dr. Nava feels it is integral that NAHN and the Alzheimer’s Association work together towards closing this health equity gap. The Alzheimer’s Association partners with NAHN on community outreach and education initiatives that help increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the Hispanic community, provide care and support resources and encourage participation in research studies. Join us in thanking Dr. Nava and the members of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses for their commitment to the fight to #ENDALZ, and learn more about our DEI national partnerships at bit.ly/4cZvHC4. ?? #HispanicHeritageMonth

Edward Jones is truly invested in a future without Alzheimer’s. Since 2016, as a Diamond National Team for Walk to End Alzheimer’s, they have raised over $25 million through more than 25,000 Walk teams and 119,000 participants for the fight to #ENDALZ — and those numbers continue to climb! That brings their total contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association since 2016 to over $49 million toward a pledged goal of $50 million by 2025. Talk about strength in numbers ??. Thank you, Edward Jones! #Walk2EndALZ

Sheldon Hudlin describes his mom as someone who was “very hard working, a great cook, and loved her family.” She was filled with energy and radiated joy. He first noticed a change in his mom when she started repeating things several times in the same conversion. Sheldon was unfamiliar with dementia when his mom was first diagnosed, but he knew it was making her into someone new. Sheldon decided he needed to learn more about dementia. When a close friend asked him to join him for Walk to End Alzheimer’s, he was all in. Through his participation in Walk, Sheldon connected with others who were facing Alzheimer’s and other dementia, and he learned about the resources that were available. As his mother’s dementia progressed, Sheldon was emotionally exhausted and broken. He reached out to a mentor for some words of wisdom. His friend told him to “just love on your momma,” completely changing Sheldon's outlook. From that day forward, he loved on his mom like each day could be her last. He painted her nails purple, which was her favorite color. They would go out for Chinese food and talk and laugh for hours, only for her to forget the next day. On April 24, 2018, Sheldon’s mom passed away. Now Sheldon continues to support the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his mom. “The Alzheimer’s Association has made big strides towards a world without Alzheimer’s, and we need to keep the momentum going.” Join Sheldon in making a difference by participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer’s near you: alz.org/walk. #NationalSonsDay?
