In August 2024, we surveyed over 2,100 U.S. consumers to gauge their optimism levels, shopping intentions, desired purchases, and preferred shopping channels. Our findings indicate a cautious consumer mindset, consistent with what we observed in spring. Many consumers express mixed feelings about the current U.S. economic conditions, leading to increased apprehension about spending. As a result, individuals are prioritizing saving and cutting back on non-essential purchases. This trend of cautious spending is expected to persist throughout the holiday season, with shoppers adopting a more measured approach to their buying decisions.
