"When you’re five years old and something horrific like this happens to you, you feel like you’re going to die. And so all of a sudden?it made sense to me that 56 years of my life I have been in fight-or-flight mode. I got to reframe it. I got to look at my trauma from an adult viewpoint as opposed to a five-year-old." Jerry?lives?on?a?ranch?in?Texas. He is a self-described pillar of his community, having owned and operated businesses and participated in local politics for the past 44 years. Outwardly, Jerry was successful--a self-made millionaire. But the more success he attained, the angrier he felt. He knew this wasn’t right. After seeking professional help from therapists and psychiatrists since 1986, Jerry found MDMA-assisted therapy in 2019 at the age of 61. This is his story.

How do you know if you're ready for a psychedelic experience? The Psychedelic Preparedness Scale (PPS) evaluates an individual's readiness for psychedelic experiences based on mental health stability, intention, knowledge, support systems, and coping skills. Developed by researchers at Imperial College London, the PPS consists of 20 questions and has been shown to correlate with positive psychology outcomes. Take it today at withalthea.com

In our latest blog post, "Legal Psilocybin Journeys - How it works," we discuss the process of a legal journey. Oregon and Colorado have legalized psilocybin-assisted therapy and seen over 8500 participants. The process involves thorough preparation, a facilitated journey (administration), and post-experience integration. Cost ranges from $1,000 to $3,000, covering facilitators, administration, and product (psilocybin). Here's what you need to know about how the process works....

Psychedelics didn't just drive cultural revolution in the 1960s. The human use of these substances can be traced back many thousands of years, in almost every pocket of early humanity. It's likely that they influenced the formation of many religions and the philosophies that underpin modern society. althea, PBC is hosting a webinar tomorrow that will go into how psychedelics shaped human history with William Phipps. Learn more and RSVP below.

It's $96.5M, to be exact. But what's a couple million among friends? Money raised is often a vanity metric, the starting line. In this interview I reflect on launching Redox into a large, established, market with a clear problem and vision for how we would solve it. Then, compare to althea, PBC discovering the emerging space of regulated psychedelics, a space so nascent we don't even call it a market yet. I recognize the immense privilege in getting to do this work of company building and am grateful for the opportunity every day. Thanks to the all-too-many collaborators, funders, colleagues, and friends I get to work with. Thanks for believing. ??

At Althea, we believe in a world where the potential of psychedelic therapies are realized. Specifically, that it’s well understood what medicines are most appropriate for different types of people, with various diagnoses, in different settings. And what the real risks in using these medicines are, so we can make informed decisions. And finally, that they’re accessible to the people who need them the most. Namely, we’re focused on?effectiveness, safety,?and?access. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gBrK3KBR

One of the things I've found most interesting about working in the world of psychedelics is the near universal aversion to calling it an "industry" or "market." If you've had a powerful psychedelic experience, you can probably relate to the feelings of oneness and interconnectivity they can manifest--seemingly antithetical to competition and capitalism. Yet, that's the world we find ourselves in. In my first contribution to Boulder Weekly, I explore the industry that is being created in Colorado. We voted to create a regulated pathway, here's how it's shaping up.
