It's #GroundwaterAwarenessWeek! Did you know that #groundwater is one of the most extracted raw materials in the world? Did you know that groundwater provides about half of the drinking water supply on Earth? ?? Groundwater levels are highly dependent on rainfall reaching the ground, allowing it to move downward through the soil to aquifers. When rainfall is blocked by paved surfaces the underground storage volume decreases. Permeable surfaces and smart water usage make a big difference in safeguarding our drinking water supplies. Please help us welcome Samantha Hofland! Sam recently joined Alta in the role of Project Administrator. When we asked 'Why Alta?' here's what she shared: "I decided to change my career path because I was looking for new challenges and a more dynamic workload. I chose Alta because, in addition to those factors, the company struck me as very welcoming and supportive of their employees. Since joining the team, my initial impressions have been confirmed; the work has been varied and challenging and the people have been gracious, kind, and excellent teachers. I am looking forward to learning a variety of tasks and having different projects to work on from day to day. I am also looking forward to meeting the rest of the team at the other locations in Moscow and Kellogg." Thanks for joining the team, Sam! #GoVandals

It's always a good time for #HAZWOPER training! HAZWOPER training (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) is critical to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment where hazardous materials can be encountered. This year the Boise crew was lucky enough to get some pretty nice weather for it, too. Big thanks to each of our trainers and participants for prioritizing safety, preparedness and compliance!

We have a brand new #published research article to share! ?? For land and #wildlife managers tasked with managing areas for different bird species and varying habitat, it can be challenging to find that most applications of #remotesensing technologies focus on either vegetation structure reflecting habitat requirements of a single #avianspecies or on general measures of ecosystem productivity or biodiversity. ? But with current state-of-the-art technologies to assess vegetation structure in a dryland #riparian ecosystem, this research team demonstrates that 3D canopy structure (including multi-layer canopy cover, voxelized leaf area density, and habitat-based patch-level leaf area density) can be quantified and tied to each species' a priori known nesting #habitat. The benefits? Repeatable monitoring over time and at a fraction of the cost of field quantification of vegetation structure! Congratulations to the Clark County Desert Conservation Program, Scott Cambrin, Seth Harju, Tarita Harju, Jodi Berg, and Richard Alward for making this research and publication possible! Read the full article here at the The Wildlife Society Bulletin: https://lnkd.in/gDdmtnFa ? #UAS #LiDAR #multispectral #avianhabitat #vegetationstructure
