On August 1, General Manager Chad Wegley, along with Fresno Irrigation District’s Bill Stretch and Consolidated Irrigation District’s Phil Desatoff, hosted a tour of a groundwater recharge basin for USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small and Congressman Jim Costa. The tour highlighted the importance of investing in #groundwater #recharge basins to enhance water security and prepare for future droughts, showcasing local basins in action. ???? Chad was interviewed by CBS47 and KSEE24 and ABC30, who covered the tour, and discussed the $3M awarded by Congressman Costa’s Community Project Funding Requests for the Upper Kings River Community Water and Climate Resiliency Project. The project is a collaborative groundwater recharge-focused effort between Alta, Fresno & Consolidated irrigation districts. Alta is using its share of the funds for a new 41-acre recharge basin, the Traver North Groundwater Recharge Basin, set to begin construction in summer 2025.
