Celebrating a design and construction completed a back in June 2020, the Wayne County ATC - (Area Technology Center), is another effort by ALT32 to elevate a traditionally marginalized K-12 building typology. Our team created significant glass bays that allow generous light to enter the teaching spaces. Additionally, this gives a broad view into the landscape while displaying student activities to the larger school public campus. Incorporating native plant material at specific locations activates the students walk between buildings. The recently completed Magoffin County CTE - Salyersville, KY, was a joy to design and administer for our longstanding client, the Magoffin County Board of Education.? ? Beyond the surface, alt32 Architecture was able to realize some important research. The building proudly exposes the electrical, HVAC and structural systems. While this takes more coordination effort by the design team, the benefit to the owner is multifold – energy savings, speedier construction, future flexibility, and reduced construction cost. More importantly it is a gain to the students – as this heightens the learning environment, allowing students to ponder daily in the industries they will eventually enter.???? ? Give a warm welcome to our fantastic summer intern, Claire Montgomery! Claire is currently attending the University of Kentucky College of Design and plans to graduate this December with an undergraduate degree in architecture and certificate in historic preservation. Throughout her time at UK, Claire has gained foundational knowledge in sustainable design practices and historic preservation. Outside of architecture, Claire has a passion for art, drawing and photography. She is excited to join the alt32 team and work with everyone, hoping to further develop her design skills through hands on experience while learning from a group of collaborative designers.
