Recently, a new study led by the Jagiellonian University School of Medicine and the University of Exeter was published in Pharmacological Research. In the study, mice were fed a high-fat diet and injected with the compound AP39 invented by the University of Exeter, which can directly deliver hydrogen sulfide to the mitochondria of cells. Cell Selex Protocol The SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment) protocol is a method used to identify aptamers—nucleic acid molecules (DNA, RNA, or modified versions) that can bind specifically to a target molecule. Notes: Positive vs Negative Selection: It is important to design the SELEX protocol to avoid selecting aptamers that bind to common structures on cells unrelated to the desired target. This is achieved through counter-selection steps where aptamers that bind to non-target cells (e.g., healthy cells or irrelevant cells) are eliminated. In a new study published in Clinical Cancer Research, the CNIO team led by Miguel á ngel Quintela found that the prognosis worsens when fibrosis occurs. The relationship between extracellular matrix fibrosis and the metastasis tendency of tumors and breast cancer has been observed. But now, for the first time in clinical research, the role of fibrosis as a very unfavorable negative prognostic factor has been confirmed, "Quintela said.
