Throughout 2024, AWU organizers engaged with thousands of their coworkers through tabling, socials, forums, rallies, and organizing conversations to get an understanding of the primary issues facing Google employees. It's no surprise that the number one issue for Googlers boiled down to one thing: job security.
Instability in the lives of Googlers, who are scared of the next round of mass layoffs, coupled with a performance review system which fails to consider our individual merit, erodes our confidence that we will be recognized for the quality of our work and makes us feel insecure about our jobs at Google. Historically, Google has championed a culture of ownership of solutions by workers. It is time for Google to engage with its workers in the spirit of creating a better working environment for everyone.
