<Spotlight> on Clara Shih Head of Business AI at Meta Meta has hired Clara Shih to lead a new “Business AI” group. This new group will develop?AI tools?for the 200 million businesses that use its apps. Clara will be responsible for developing and monetizing tools within Meta's AI portfolio that are catered specifically to these businesses. The products will be made with Meta's open-source large language model "Llama" and be offered to the millions of businesses advertising and creating content on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Meta has recently pushed more AI-generated content into its social media feeds, including a carousel on Facebook of AI-generated photos, and AI chatbots imitating content creators on Instagram. Clara was most recently the CEO of Salesforce AI. In this role, she oversaw artificial intelligence efforts across the company, including product, go-to-market, growth, adoption, and ecosystem for Einstein GPT, the world's #1 AI for CRM. Einstein GPT delivers over 1 trillion predictions and generative automations every week across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud, Industry Clouds, Mulesoft, Tableau, and Slack. Previously, Clara led Salesforce Service Cloud, the world’s #1 customer service, contact center, digital service, bots, and field service solution. A digital pioneer, Clara has been named one of Fortune’s “40 under 40” and “Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs,” Fast Company’s “Most Influential People in Technology,” and a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum. Clara is a member of the Starbucks board of directors and serves as Executive Chair of Hearsay Systems, a privately held digital software firm she founded in 2009. She graduated #1 in computer science at Stanford University, where she also received an M.S. in computer science. OpenAI has added another prestigious domain to its portfolio with the acquisition of Chat.com. As reported in TechCrunch, Chat.com now redirects to ChatGPT, OpenAI’s advanced AI chatbot, signaling the domain’s integration with OpenAI’s suite of digital assets. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the acquisition in a statement. Originally registered in September 1996, Chat.com has been a coveted domain name for decades. Last year, it was reported that HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah purchased Chat.com for a record-breaking $15.5 million, making it one of the top two publicly disclosed domain sales of all time. https://lnkd.in/eRxhFjBy In March, Shah revealed that he had sold Chat.com to an undisclosed buyer, and late today, he confirmed on X that OpenAI was that buyer. Shah’s post implied that the sale was completed in OpenAI shares. Interestingly, the domain’s ownership records haven’t changed since last year’s sale, suggesting that OpenAI’s use of Chat.com may be a redirection rather than a full brand shift. When asked, OpenAI declined to disclose the amount it paid for the domain.

OpenAI announced today that ChatGPT can now search the web for up-to-date answers to a user’s queries. Previously, ChatGPT mostly depended on its training data, last updated in October 2023 for GPT-4, with limited web capabilities. Now, ChatGPT can automatically fetch current information for recent topics, including sports, stock updates, or daily news, enhancing responses with multimedia results when applicable. Users may still initiate a manual search, but the chatbot will primarily assess when a web search is beneficial. This feature is currently available for ChatGPT’s paying users. OpenAI plans to extend free access to this feature in the future, even to logged-out users. Upcoming enhancements will integrate search with ChatGPT’s voice capabilities and Canvas, an interactive tool for coding and writing, though these aren’t included in the initial release. As all applications begin to be reinvented for the #AI era, ChatGPT Search will be a formidable challenger to Google’s 90% market share in online search. Are you ready?
