Alpha Tau Pi

What does it mean to think global, but act local? With a 3-day initiative spanning the second week of January, Michigan GSSA was able to collaborate with a variety of other pre-health organizations on the Michigan campus (CURIS, Alpha Tau Pi, ALCSI, Global Health Alliance, and ALL-SAFE) to organize a week of service and donation events to help support making surgical care more accessible across the African continent. Along with a series of virtual and in-person donation hustles organized throughout the week, our TGAL initiative concluded in a Day of Service held on January 12th, where members from the above organizations had the opportunity to rotate around different stations, participating in the following activities: crafting cards and blankets to be delivered to patients at Michigan Medicine, assisting in appendix model-making with the medical school organization ALL-SAFE, and painting white ribbons in support of lung cancer awareness. The total amount of $500 USD accumulated through our donation efforts will be directly supporting the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), an international organization focused on combatting the lack of surgical care in several countries within Africa through education and training. And—as always—a huge, huge thank you to Erin Kim for ALL-SAFE's involvement in this initiative, and the wonderful collaboration ALL-SAFE continues to have with our undergraduate chapter!

This Monday, Alpha Tau Pi was privileged to host Sanctum House, a safe home that provides a comprehensive program to support the recovery of human trafficking survivors. Alongside this program, Sanctum House also provides critical healthcare, professional services, and education opportunities to its residents. Human trafficking is a crisis affecting millions worldwide, and hearing firsthand from someone working directly with survivors is an invaluable opportunity to learn, raise awareness, and take action. To further support this cause, Alpha Tau Pi hosted a bake sale in which all proceeds were donated to Sanctum House. Thank you, Sanctum House, for speaking to us about the incredible program and for the invaluable help you provide to your community. Another thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and helped make both the event and bake sale a success.

Last week, Alpha Tau Pi was thrilled to host an inspiring dental student speaker, Claire Kostecki, as she shared insights on their journey into dentistry and tips for aspiring professionals. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards of dental school from someone currently experiencing it. We also held a professional headshot event to help our members enhance their online presence on LinkedIn, applications, and beyond. Thank you to everyone who attended and made these events such a success! We are looking forward to hosting more opportunities for growth and networking in the future.
