? Resource Fair Update! ? We are so excited to share that our Resource Fair is coming together with amazing community partners and family vendors! ?? ?? Date: Saturday, April 26th | 10am-2pm ?? Location: Alpha: Blanca Alvarado As of now, we’ll have 21 incredible organizations joining us to provide essential resources (see a few of them below), along with incredible Alpha family vendors bringing their small businesses to the fair. This event is all about building community, supporting families, and ensuring everyone has access to valuable services. There’s still time to get involved! ?? This month, we proudly celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our Parent Learning Center’s Food Bank! For the past decade, Alpha Public Schools has partnered with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley to provide free, nutritious food to approximately 390 families in our community every month at our Alpha Blanca Alvarado and Alpha Jose Hernandez campuses. This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers—a team made up of high school students, Alpha parents and staff, and community members across San José. Their unwavering commitment to serving East San José is what keeps our food bank running strong. A special shoutout to Georgina Jimenez Arreola and Alejandro E. for their outstanding leadership in organizing the food bank each month. These two remarkable individuals are truly the heart of this effort — their unwavering dedication, the meaningful relationships they've built, and their deep care for our community are nothing short of extraordinary. A big thank you as well to Nelly Gutierrez, Vanessa Pineda, Crystal Villavicencio, Mirella, and Migdalia for their incredible support. Today's #TalenTuesday features the incredible Rene Silva, M.A.! ?????? Rene started teaching 6th Grade Math in 2015 and this year, he is teaching Personal Finance at Cindy Avitia High School. He chose to work at Alpha because of the commitment to closing the opportunity gap, especially in under-resourced communities. “Growing up in a low-income household myself, I know how important it is to break the cycle and provide the next generation with the tools to succeed. At Alpha, I get to be part of a team that’s dedicated to giving students the knowledge and resources they need to change their own lives.” What excites him the most about his role is seeing the “aha” moments when students connect personal finance concepts to their own lives. “It’s so rewarding when they begin to understand the power of budgeting, saving, and making wise financial decisions. ???? These are skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives, and I’m honored to be a part of that learning process.” Rene’s education philosophy is centered around equity and empowerment. “I’m passionate about creating a learning environment where students feel seen, heard, and valued. For me, education isn’t just about academics—it's about preparing students for life, helping them develop critical thinking skills, and showing them that they can achieve their goals no matter their circumstances.” Rene, thank you for your commitment to Alpha’s vision and mission; the work you do is inspiring!???

?? Empowering Latinas, Building Leaders! ?? At Alpha: Cindy Avitia, we are proud to support the HOPE Youth Leadership Program, a transformative initiative by Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) that empowers young Latinas with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become future leaders. This year, we want to celebrate four incredible young women who have dedicated 3-days of their time and efforts in Los Angeles for the first part of this program. ??? Through workshops on dinner and social media etiquette, mental health, STEM careers, budgeting, networking, and debate, they have gained invaluable life skills that will shape their futures in college, career, and beyond. Their dedication to personal and professional growth is truly inspiring! A huge thank you to our HOPE Advisor, Elizabeth Marquez Bernardino, for guiding and mentoring these students, and to HOPE for providing this life-changing opportunity. Your commitment to empowering young Latinas is paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future! We are excited to see their efforts and journey throughout this program until they graduate in May.

For students to thrive academically, they and their families must feel safe and empowered—at home, school, and in public spaces. This month, we partnered with SIREN Services Immigrant Rights and Education Network to host an immigration workshop for our students, caregivers, staff, and community members. ? 48 families gained crucial knowledge about their rights and how to prepare in case a loved one is detained. ? Families left empowered to exercise their rights and share this information with others. A huge thank you to SIREN for their dedication and collaboration! We also want to recognize our incredible Alpha Public School employees Alejandro E. and Elizabeth Marquez Bernardino who worked behind the scenes to make this workshop possible. Together, we are building stronger, safer communities.
