Hunter College Media Studies & Business Major, Minor Sociology | ALPFA Student | Program Coordinator and Data Intake Officer, Children Art and Science Workshop’s
On Saturday, October 5th, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the ALPFA Philadelphia Chapter Chapter Student Summit, partnered with the ALPFA Villanova Chapter. A huge thank you and congratulations to Miguel N. for leading his first event at ALPFA Philly, and to the entire ALPFA Villanova team for organizing such a warm and welcoming experience! I also appreciate the opportunity to enter the raffle to win a free LinkGenie online card! I was fortunate to attend the summit with Jacqueline Cruz, Alejandro Cotrina, George G., and Frank Mora. We had a blast connecting with students from other universities, and we made some great memories together! One quote that truly resonated with me through the Q&A panel hosted by Eduardo Calderon came from Monique Muldoon, MBA, Vice President and Account Executive (Health Solutions-Human Capital) at Aon ??“You’re carrying your own personal brand.” This powerful reminder stayed with me throughout the event as I connected with professionals, gained valuable insights, and expanded my network. One of the highlights of the summit was meeting Debora Hernandez Ramos and Aby Rodriguez from Deloitte. Their “Defining Your Purpose” workshop was truly eye-opening, providing invaluable insights into understanding our strengths and weaknesses—not just in our professional lives, but in our everyday experiences. They patiently answered all of my questions (and there were quite a few!) and took the time to review my “Purpose Statement.” Their honest feedback helped me gain clarity on my strengths and weaknesses, encouraging me to dig deeper into what my true purpose is for my career. I left feeling inspired and more inspired to pursue my goals! I also attended Aon workshop led by Chris Saksa, MSC, Mike Boss, and Michelle Mayo. We had a great discussion about feedback, covering what makes it valuable, the challenges it brings, and how to apply it for personal and professional growth. The session was interactive, allowing us to share our experiences while giving and receiving feedback. Chris, Mike, and Michelle highlighted the importance of a feedback-rich environment where constructive criticism is welcomed. ??“Who is one person you trust and go to for feedback no matter good or bad?” Was the question of the hour. Their insights gave me hands-on strategies to hug feedback instead and use it effectively in my development. Thank you, I want to extend my gratitude once again to everyone who made this summit an unforgettable learning experience, I hope to see you all soon!

Leave Policy & Benefit Design Expert & Consultant | ALPFA Denver President | Equity-focused Leader | Systems Thinker | 2023 ALPFA Rising Star & 30 Under 30 Latine Leader Honoree (2021)
This morning, I had the incredible honor to participate in and lead a breakout room discussion on the importance of allyship - what it is, what it means, and how we can all become better allies. Thank you to Comcast and ALPFA Philadelphia Chapter (Rafael Oquendo, LSS BB specifically for organizing) for not only hosting the event, but for creating a space where people from different regions, backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life could come together, listen, and understand. I'd like to share some of the messages that really stayed with me: ?? Allyship requires action. ?? Allyship It is not an identity but rather a commitment to listen and make intentional choices that foster inclusivity and psychological safety. ?? Allyship is rooted in radical love and understanding of each other. ?? Listen with the intent to understand rather than the intent to respond. Tip: try waiting 5 seconds before responding. Sit with the discomfort of silence as you give yourself and others a moment to process. ?? Consider all the different ways someone may be different from you, especially the subtle ways that may not be obvious (like neurodivergence or cultural/personality differences). Sometimes, the "DEI" work focuses primarily on the "diversity" part, and doesn't pay enough attention on the "inclusion" part. We can invite all the diverse people into our organizations, but without allyship, we cannot achieve the ultimate goal of making everyone feel included. How do you practice allyship?
