CERAWeek was full of updates, insights and connections. One of the most exciting was Scott W. Tinker, PhD and Toby Z. Rice (CEO of EQT Corporation) announcing the creation of an industry led Energy Corps (https://energycorps.com). This is something every purpose led company will want to support. With a 50-50x50 goal, this will be the most impactful non-profit on the planet. The vision is to increase human flourishing by ending energy poverty on the planet. That's measured by everyone having access to 50MWh of electricity and $50,000 GDP per capita annually in 50 years. I especially love that it is not about giving money away and hope for results. Their model of Education and Action is scalable and results oriented. Energy education will be led by the well-established Switch Energy Alliance team and Action is being developed as Energy Corps Frontline where it will be deploying energy solutions at scale. Congratulations to Pearland High School for winning the Tier 1 Grand Champion and Magnolia High School for winning the Tier 2 Grand Champion.
Today I attended the awards ceremony for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Industrial Craft Competition. This year we had 536 young men and women participate from 18 area high schools. In short, the ICC Committee provides area high schools that have technical career education the materials, drawings, advisors and mentors necessary to fabricate a production skid. The teams are evaluated on safety, technical compliance, execution management and the quality of their project presentation. The combination of those scores results in a HLSR ICC Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. Congratulations to Pearland High School for winning the Tier 1 Grand Champion and Magnolia High School for winning the Tier 2 Grand Champion. The quality of work from each of the teams was outstanding and all ~500 kids are well prepared for a high paying career after high school. Thank you to the hard working S&Bers that support the ICC with their time and talent. Thanks to the ICC donors that fund the many things required to execute such a quality competition and thanks especially to Phillips 66 for being the named sponsor (thanks Todd Denton). A special thanks to J D Slaughter, P.E., Robert Hodge and the ICC Committee for your leadership. Great event and all involved have so much to be proud of. Great day.
