Enriching the lives of people with special needs.

关于我们

Allies, Inc. is a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing housing, healthcare, meaningful employment, and recreational opportunities to people with special needs in the communities of their choice. Since 1999, we have enriched the lives of people with special needs by promoting their greater independence with dignity, respect and understanding. New Jersey’s medical care service industry is seeing an increase in the need to support individuals in a community home setting. This increase creates the demand for more medical and direct care professionals to provide daily monitoring and preventative care. Allies, Inc. is dedicated to meeting this demand, offering opportunities for career placement and advancement in 20 counties in New Jersey. Allies would like to take a moment to honor and thank all of the amazing Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who help us to carry out our mission every single day. As part of National DSP Recognition week, Sept. 9 – 13, Allies honored seven direct support professionals with an award ceremony. In addition to plaques, the honored DSPs received small gifts and lunch. “We are so honored to be able to recognize all of our DSPs,” Mike Haggerty, MS, president and CEO of Allies, Inc., said. “The work that each of you do, and the work our DSPs do as a collective, is incredible and deserves to be celebrated.” At every Allies program, DSPs work tirelessly and endlessly to empower the people we support. In total, Allies employs nearly 650 DSPs in various roles throughout the state. “The work you do, and the support you offer to those we support, is awe-inspiring,” Haggerty said. “I know [DSPs] have a complex job, but it is a critically important one in our organization.” “The common thread in this room is that everyone here is kind, patient, and gracious,” Phil Monetti, COO of Allies, said. “You really are the heartbeat of Allies, and we truly appreciate everythin you do, every day: Thank you.” Please join us in congratulating the 2024 DSP Stars: Virginia Kanyugi, Tall Oak Sarah Gansereit, Wall Day Valentine Nwadiogbu, Glendale Kemper Hooks, Green Brook Day Jasmine Brown, Sumac Brian Corbin, Green Street George Thorpe, 32k Omolara Gbenle, Chatham

Every year in March, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities recognizes National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This year, the month’s theme of recognition is “A world of Opportunities.” Throughout March, we will highlight individuals among the Allies community who are finding success by taking advantage of the opportunities around them. First up, Allies would like to recognize Chamaine Anderson! Chamaine is employed with Aramark and works as a utility worker at the University of Delaware. After being employed for about 3 months, Chamaine’s colleagues and team regularly complement Anderson’s work and regard her as a great addition to their team. Chamaine’s primary responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness standards in the cafeteria. That includes regularly wiping down tables and assisting in sanitization procedures in dining areas. Please join Allies in extending a congratulations and “well-done” to Chamaine on seizing her opportunity!

Allies would like to extend hearty congratulations to the graduates of the New Horizons: Essential Managerial Skills Program. The program consists of 12 educational and interactive sessions intended to instill leadership skills for managers throughout the Allies family. Friday’s graduation celebrated three classes, totaling 32 graduates who completed New Horizons coursework in 2023. “The New Horizons: Essential Managerial Skills program benefits our manager in many ways,” Ricky Alfaro, training and development specialist at Allies and administrator of the New Horizons program, said. “One is to understand how we communicate, use a democratic style to lead effectively, be inclusive, and embrace diversity.” The New Horizons program falls in alignment with Allies’ goal of encouraging career development and growth from within the organization. Michael Haggerty, president and CEO of Allies, echoed the sentiment; “I think we owe it to each of you and to all of our employees to develop talent and promote from within when possible.” “I commend you for the commitment you have made, and I ask that you take the knowledge you learned in this program and spread it,” Haggerty said. At its core, the program is a collaborative effort. Alfaro is the administrator, but through emotional and open sessions, the course and its content are continuously developing. Topics touched on during the program include managerial style and skill work and diversity and inclusion. Additionally, trauma-informed care receives attention in the program as well. Graduates of the program spoke positively about the experience. “The classes were comprehensive,” Hasan Sanders, a support manager, said during the graduation ceremony. “Ricky created a safe space that fostered an environment of trust and self-disclosure.” “When I attended the first class, I was sold,” Lexly Thompson, a support manager, said. “This class helped me to smoothly transform from a CSS to a support manager in the same program.” “It’s been a great opportunity as someone who is new to the company and at a new house,” Donna Smith, a program manager, said. “Every single person in here is so special,” Alfaro said. “I am happy to have had the opportunity to have developed this with you guys.”
