At our session today at #COP29, Sapna (Gheewala) Dowla and a panel of experts explored how innovative materials, financing mechanisms, and clean energy deployment can converge to deliver real-world solutions. The Alliance has seen firsthand how putting #EnergyEfficiencyFirst can revolutionize sectors, from enabling smarter buildings to decarbonizing industrial processes. But achieving scale requires us to think differently: to integrate new materials into our supply chains, collaborate across borders, and finance transition in inclusive and equitable ways. The path to net zero is multifaceted, demanding an ecosystem of solutions including renewable energy, hydrogen, and advanced storage, with energy efficiency forming the foundation. It reduces waste, lowers costs, and unlocks the full potential of other technologies.? Simply put, we cannot decarbonize without it. ?This side event was co-hosted with the International Council for #SustainableEnergy (ICSE), and the Plant Based Products Council Together, we recognize that partnerships between organizations and public and private sector stakeholders are vital to advancing a circular economy and achieving net zero. Highlights from Thursday's #COP29 press event on Energy Efficiency! ?? ·??????Lisa Jacobson (Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE)): Echoed #MissionEfficiency call for countries to commit to #EnergyEfficiency initiatives, urged financial communities to ramp up investments, and empowered the #COPTroika to lead the way to doubling EE by 2030. ·??????Bruce Douglas (Global Renewables Alliance (GRA)): Stressed the importance of updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to include specific EE and #RenwableEnergy goals. ·??????Kofi Agyarko (#EnergyCommissionofGhana): Highlighted Ghana’s lead role in incorporating EE into its NDCs, with a push to include more EE appliances. ·??????Jon Creyts (RMI): Noted that, in emerging markets, EE alone could save 1/3 of new energy demand by 2035, boosting grid efficiency. Let’s keep the momentum going to prioritize energy efficiency for a sustainable, low-carbon future. Read the press release and join the call: https://lnkd.in/dUnPZezW

Metrus Energy is signing an official letter (https://lnkd.in/eUePXHx5) to the COP Presidencies Troika – a collaborative effort between United Arab Emirates (host of COP28), Azerbaijan (current host of COP29), and Brazil (host of COP30 in 2025) – urging commitment to the global goal of doubling energy efficiency improvements annually thru 2030. With an enormous pipeline of bankable energy efficiency projects globally, there is both the will and the way to scale up investments,?reduce GHG emissions and keep our climate goals attainable. Doubling down on energy efficiency is necessary to triple up on renewables; together they can power sustainability now and in the future. Energy efficiency is the most important lever that is not being pulled right now to advance climate goals. Improving energy efficiency in industry, buildings, transport, and power sectors could generate 40% of the emissions reductions required by the Paris Agreement. To do so, we would need to double the pace of energy efficiency upgrades by 2030, but there has been a lack of leadership and credible government plans for energy efficiency. RMI is proud to be part of a coalition of countries, businesses, and organizations anchored by Mission Efficiency that is urging world leaders at #COP29 to commit to fund energy efficiency because it will make the energy transition cheaper, faster, fairer, and more secure. Here's what the Alliance is hearing at #COP29Baku: At a US press event with America’s top climate diplomat John Podesta, we heard support for building #EnergyEfficiency?through federal #IRA and #IIJA funding, as well as through building codes on federal guidance and via state and local implementation. More innovation will be needed from builders and architects to increase efficiency inside and out (including embodied carbon). Listen to the webcast here https://lnkd.in/eAMVUMqg. And stay tuned to this space for more #EnergyEfficiencyFirst updates from Baku.
