The much-anticipated final local coverage determinations for CTPs (skin substitutes) issued last week, and on Dec. 10 (3:00-5:00pm ET) the seven Medicare Administrative Contractors that issued the policies are hosting a "Town Hall" discussion and listening session. Pre-registration is required to attend and to speak. The final CTP/Skin Substitute local coverage determinations reflect stakeholder input and provide treatment flexibility for use of evidence-based products in DFU/VLU, but lack clarity on a timely process for future evidence submissions for coverage. Earlier this morning, CMS and the Medicare Administrative Contractors released the final CTP LCD and article along with an explanation of comments. https://lnkd.in/evZX5Qge There were many notable changes from the proposed CTP LCD, including: - The number of covered applications was increased from 4 to 8. - Treatment duration increased from 12 to 16 weeks - Additional clarity regarding evidence assessment was provided with the insertion of four systematic reviews and a new section entitled "Real World Evidence" added to the evidence review section. - Additional ICD-10-CM codes with clarifications were added to the Billing and Coding Article. A great Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders meeting was held this morning at #DFCon2024. It was open for all conference attendees with relevant topics being discussed and clarified; eg. the CMS Final Rules 2024. Great that DFCon can be a platform for facilitating these types of discussions.

Nurse practitioners (NPs) play a hugely vital role in wound care by assessing and treating wounds, developing care plans, coordinating care with other specialists, and so many other essential roles. Indeed the Alliance's own vice-chair, Kara Couch, MS, CRNP, CWCN-AP, FAAWC, is Director of Wound Care Services at George Washington University Hospital.
