Our network member organisations (as all other grassroot organisations) are often on the front lines of the fight for gender parity, yet they face significant hurdles due to insufficient funding. As ongoing cuts threaten essential programmes, we must ask ourselves: how can we advance women's rights without a solid financial foundation? INVESTING IN LEADERSHIP CAPACITIES and BUILDING RESILIENT ORGANISATIONS are not just options; they are imperatives. Without these critical investments, systemic barriers will persist, jeopardising the progress of countless women and girls. Our CEO, Dr. Vongai Nyahunzvi, emphasises in her latest piece, "Funding at the Mercy of Politics," the urgent need for a different conversation surrounding aid dependency and its political influences. As we face significant aid reductions, evident with the recent ￡400 million cuts to crucial health programmes in Africa, it’s time to confront the lasting impacts of these decisions on marginalised populations. 2025 Women’s Month Celebrations! Today, we celebrate Manyara Mission! Mission is a 24-year-old young womxn and a young mother of two (2). Mission believes in working hard in order to take care of her special children. She runs a small vending stall selling fruits and veggies. Mission is always inspired to do more and to see her stall grow into a bigger market of fruits and vegetables. As one of our Feminist Champions, we celebrate her and wish her well in all her endeavours!

This past Saturday, we hosted a thought-provoking X Space with our incredible partners Ajambo Mary and Prudence Mbaura M, representing Motherly Heart and Mukadzi Munhuwo. The discussion explored the profound impact of climate change on girls' and women’s rights, including education, bodily autonomy, and economic and political participation. Key takeaways from the conversation: ? Education as a Climate Solution. Mary emphasized that investing in girls' education is critical for climate resilience. She highlighted the need for climate-resilient infrastructure to ensure students access and complete their primary and secondary education. ? Strengthening Protection & Economic Empowerment – Prudence Mbaura underscored the importance of collaborating with law enforcement to safeguard women from gender-based violence (GBV). She also stressed that economic empowerment is key. Pairing GBV prevention with climate-smart agriculture can enhance women’s safety and economic stability in the face of climate challenges. Our discussion reinforced that climate adaptation and mitigation must be multisectoral and gender-responsive to truly create lasting change. Missed the conversation? The Girls’ Legacy your community is noticing the amazing work you are doing and we celebrate your efforts and dedication. The Girls Legacy seeks to invest in young women’s education and leadership through responding to their practical needs, providing mentorship and enabling them to form networks amongst themselves. These networks form a club system which is run by girls themselves in different communities. The premise of the clubs is to create learning hubs for girls through a holistic approach that facilitates interpersonal and intra-personal empowerment for the girls. Keep at it! #IWD2025
