During the UK Parliament's debate on the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace, MP Peter Prinsley highlighted the vital work of ALLMEP members Combatants for Peace, the Middle East Children's Institute (MECI), and Holy Land Trust in trauma-informed peacebuilding. These organizations incorporate new approaches and strategies to address trauma, pain, and cycles of violence within and between Israeli and Palestinians communities. Last month, ALLMEP organized a panel in Belfast featuring Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from three of Northern Ireland’s main political parties—the Social Democratic and Labour Party, the Ulster Unionist Party, and the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. Their insights underscored how civil society activism can build the political will for peace and translate it into tangible action. They also reflected on how the Good Friday Agreement provided a framework that enshrined the rights of both communities to freedom, dignity, and self-determination. This week, the UK reaffirmed its commitment to the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. In a series of high-level meetings, ALLMEP members & peacebuilders, including A Land for All and Yonatan Zeigen, engaged with MPs to push for action. These discussions underscored the vital role of civil society in conflict resolution and the growing momentum behind the UK’s commitment to the Fund. The day cumulated in a 60-min debate in the UK parliament on the merits of the Fund, in which a wide range of cross-party MPs spoke in favor of the initiative. During yesterday’s UK Foreign Affairs Committee session, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer reaffirmed the UK's commitment to the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace—endorsed by PM Keir Starmer in December—when asked by Alex Ballinger MP, co-chair of the #APPG on Conflict Prevention, Conflict Resolution & Peacebuilding. This follows Alex’s meeting with Yonatan Zeigen earlier that day to discuss international support for civil society-led conflict resolution.
