Performative activism will never be comfortable in the home of verity and duplicity will never find a seat at the table of rectitude. The word “change” literally means to make something or someone different. In order for something to be different, someone must be different and do differently. Metaphorically, the people in the home and at the table are what make the home and table different. These brilliant SPS students moderating this panel discussion on ‘Running for School Board’, clearly understood the idea of “different”. They formulated and asked powerful, thought-provoking questions to one of the most influential positions in the space of public education. These questions pressed for answers on the plans for “change”, addressing barriers impeding the progress of upward mobility for many students in this free system of schools. This was an amazing conversation, full of transparency with comprehensible recommendations for building sustainable development goals. Thank you El Centro de la Raza and Alliance for Education for all that you do for SPS students.
