关于我们

Alliance for Biosolutions gathers large businesses, SMEs, startups, universities and organisations that champion a necessary paradigm shift from fossil to green regulation. We are the FIRST ecosystem partnership for biosolutions created in 2020 by the Danish Chamber of Commerce, companies and research institutions at the frontier of the global green transition. We need to transition to a greener and more sustainable future. A future in which we must produce more, for more people on less land and with the lowest possible impact on our climate and enviroment. It is a massive undertaking that demands a break from conventional wisdom to pave the way for new solutions. This is why we have set up the Alliance for Biosolutions. Biosolutions constitute of biological products that are anchored in biotech, i.e. utilisation of living organisms, including enzymes, microorganisms, bacteria cultures, pheromones etc. for concrete applications and products that are used in other sectors’ manufacturing processes and as end products to enable sustainable transformations such as emission reductions. Products include alternative proteins, bio-based ingredients, bio pesticides, bio plastics, enzymes, probiotics, food cultures, and fermentation solutions for feed and food.

?Biosolutions High Level Summit 2024 is a wrap ?? ?? ? Our vision of establishing a platform and gathering point for the biosolutions ecosystem has certainly come true?? ? Yesterday marked the culmination of months of work as the Biosolution High Level Summit 2024 took place at the Danish Parliament hosted by Linea S?gaard-Lidell. ? The summit showed the power of cross-sector collaboration. By uniting the biosolutions ecosystem, we can strengthen our competitiveness within the EU. ? We have a common narrative and this is “just the beginning” as CEO Ester Baiget from Novonesis stated very well?? ? A big THANK YOU goes out to all speakers and our excellent moderator Natasha Foote,?all participants, and of course especially our co-organizing partners at the Novo Nordisk Foundation and DI Bio for supporting our ambitions on behalf of Europe ?? ? Together, the voice of biosolutions can and will resonate louder than ever ?? ? We hope to see all of you next year! ?? ??Alexander Hulstr?m

  • You know what we’re excited about? ?? Regulatory sandboxes! ????? We know it’s not a very cool kids kind of thing to be passionate about, but we genuinely think such sandboxes are awesome. Why? Because they can enable a faster path to market for innovative biosolutions. ??? And right now, we’re actually getting a sneak peek at them in action as the UK is rolling out a regulatory sandbox for cultivated meat. ?? In practice, this means companies and regulators can experiment with approval processes without getting stuck in regulatory quicksand. ? And let’s be honest, if you’re developing groundbreaking technology, it’s pretty frustrating to be held back by outdated laws. ?? Regulatory sandboxes are about bringing innovation and legislation closer together, instead of waiting a decade for the rules to catch up. ?? And it’s not just the cultivated-meat industry that needs this. Biosolutions, from precision fermentation to bio-based materials, face the same challenge: Existing regulations are not always built for future-proof solutions. ???? So, we are really excited to jump into these sandboxes in Denmark, and we are eager to follow the sandbox biosolutions initiative from the entrepreneurship agreement from 2024 decided by the Danish Parliament! ???

  • ?? No more roadblocks for biobased asphalt ?? One of our amazing members, Line Kloster Pedersen from Visibuilt, is featured in Dansk Erhverv’s magazine, highlighting how inadequate regulation remains one of the biggest roadblocks for innovation. Visibuilt is working to obtain CE certification for Visibit, a fermented binder made from fungi that can replace bitumen in asphalt. However, there is no existing standard for asphalt without bitumen, meaning Visibuilt must go through a long and costly approval process. The process takes at least a year and costs around 700,000 DKK, delaying market entry and making it harder to attract investors. Meanwhile, competitors in the U.S. move ahead faster. As Line points out, we need an EU fast-track system for bio-based products, cutting approval times to a maximum of three months. ? A solution that ensures faster processing, lower costs, and better guidance - not holding back the sustainable solutions we need the most. Denmark and the EU have a global leadership position in biosolutions, let’s make sure we keep it. ???

Get ready for some new investments in precision fermentation ?? ? The Danish government and parliament have allocated 60 million DKKR in the 2025 research agreement to establish and develop test, demonstration, and development facilities for green key technologies such as precision fermentation and CO2-to-protein?? ? This initiative aims to strengthen Danish SMEs and startups in biosolutions by: ?? Providing better access to test facilities in Denmark. ?? Promoting the development of innovative solutions that can reduce the carbon footprint. ?? Supporting the green transition in food production. ? Why is this so important for the biosolution community? Precision fermentation allows us to cultivate microorganisms that produce proteins and food components with fewer resources and greater efficiency. Precision fermentation really has the potential to revolutionize food production and position Denmark as a global leader in biosolutions. Many of our members are already using precision fermentation, and the results are nothing short of great. ?? ? But it's not just the great technology we are celebrating because by investing in facilities, we see the government and parliament responding to the calls from start-ups and scale-ups for greater investment in facilities and infrastructure???? And great shout out to the Danish Minister for Business Affairs, Morten B?dskov and the Danish Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Jacob Jensen???? ??The deadline is May 6th. If you have any questions regarding funding, don't hesitate to reach out to us. You can read more at the link below????

?? New Clean Industrial Deal to boost EU’s competitiveness and green transition ?? The EU Commission has today launched its new #CleanIndustrialDeal and plan to boost Europe’s competitiveness while simultaneously ensuring that climate ambitions are met. Geopolitically, the EU is falling behind in terms of competitiveness ?? Therefore, it is positive that the EU Commission is planning to take steps towards supporting the increase of sustainable and resilient production within the EU region. Here clean tech such as the bio-based and circular economies - including industrial biotech and #biosolutions - play a significant role. Further, the Commission is also today adopting an "Action Plan for Affordable Energy, aiming to lower energy bills for industries, businesses and households in the short term, while speeding up necessary structural reforms.." This is a crucial prerequisite for a sustainable production?? Finally, we are happy to read that; "The Commission will propose a Bioeconomy Strategy to improve resource efficiency and to tap the significant growth potential of bio-based materials substituting fossil-based materials, and related industries" We expect the Bioeconomy Strategy to be launched in Denmark during the upcoming EU presidency, and once again we are humbly highligting the urgent importance of TAILORMADE REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS to fasten innovative and sustainable biosolutions' path to the EU market ?? ?? • A little bit about bioeconomy… ? Did you know as much as 60% of the global economy’s physical inputs could be produced biologically? ? This means the bioeconomy isn’t just the future, and it’s already transforming industries like agriculture, healthcare and consumer goods. ? From sustainable bioplastics to energy-efficient biofuels, biosolutions are reshaping how we create, view and use products. ? Take hyaluronic acid as an example: once sourced from animals, this $10 billion skincare ingredient is now made through fermentation, with recent innovations reducing its environmental impact by up to 91% ????. On a larger scale, biosolutions could help cut global emissions by 8% by 2030. ? But the bioeconomy isn’t just about greener products and lower emissions -it’s also driving job creation. In Europe alone, the bioeconomy employs 8% of the workforce and could create 1 million new green jobs by 2030 ????. ? At Alliance for Biosolutions, we know the future is bio-based, and it’s arriving faster than ever. ? Curious to learn more? Check out the "Accelerating the Tech-Driven Bioeconomy" report from the WEF. ????

  • The EU Commission has unveiled its new vision for the future of agriculture and food production in the EU ?? ? According to an analysis by our friends at T?nketanken EUROPA, innovation is highlighted, but the strategy seems to downplay sustainability - an unfortunate move at a time when #biosolutions and biotechnology could help accelerate and transform the sector ?? ? On the positive side, the commitment to improving access to biopesticides and allowing more experimentation with new technologies is a step forward. ? These measures will hopefully speed up the adoption of more biosolutions and reduce reliance on conventional chemicals ?? ? However, the broader vision raises some concerns. ? Can we truly advance food production without putting sustainability at the core? ? And does the emphasis on food sovereignty risk slowing down the transition to even more bio-based innovation? ?? ? Share your thoughts in the comments, where you’ll also find links to the analysis by Think Tank Europa and the full vision from the EU Commission ????????
