Today isn't just #BlackFriday; it's also Native American Heritage Day, which is celebrated each year to honor the traditions and culture of Native American communities. But Native-owned Ginew does that all year long. The Oregon-based apparel manufacturer creates heirloom-quality clothing inspired by designs and traditions of American Indian tribes. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Erik Brodt and Amanda Bruegl -- both of whom are also practicing medical doctors -- Ginew sources much of its materials locally to craft denim, coats, T-shirts, vests, scarves and more. Ginew's garments celebrate the tribes of Brodt and Bruegl's heritage, including the Ojibwe, Oneida, and Stockbridge-Munsee. The company also works with Native artists, and look to their own ancestors for further inspiration. “A lot of the clothing that our grandparents, and great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents wore were a lot of the really cool icons of men’s and women’s practical style, which is more of a kind of western ranch or western workwear style," Brodt told us. "We draw inspiration from the clothes they wore, from our tribes, and any of the artists and graphic designers we work with, most of whom are Native Americans." Ginew is dedicated to making its apparel in the United States, and sources as much material in the U.S. as possible. It's products are designed to stand the test of time; in fact, Brodt still wears the very first sample coat the company ever made. “Our goal is to make things that last and last, pieces which are meant to endure for decades if not generations. We hope to decrease the mass consumption and waste.” For more on Ginew, one of the 112 companies included in the 2024 Made in America Holiday Gift Guide, click here: https://lnkd.in/g-g_jsHM #madeinusa #madeinamerica #madeintheusa #americanmade #native #nativeowned #nativemade #americanindian #nativeamerican #nativeamericanheritageday #indigenous #indigenousowned #indigenousmade

#BlackFriday is all about the deals. But don't forget about Made in USA today! Many of the 112 companies featured in this year's Made in America Holiday Gift Guide are also hosting Black Friday sales. Purchasing even just one or two American-made gifts this year can go a long way in supporting local manufacturing and good American factory jobs. After all, the big box stores will be just fine this season. But your purchase of a Made in the USA item can really mean the difference to a local manufacturer. Americans consistently say they favor #MadeinAmerica. The key is making sure they know about the #AmericanMade products out there -- and putting policy in place that supports our local manufacturers and workers instead of importers.
When surveyed, 77% of Americans prefer to buy goods made in the United States, especially during holidays, and 82% said they would buy more if available. A?new poll?from the Alliance for American Manufacturing conducted the survey. According to Amazon's Small Business Impact report, independent sellers in Kentucky sold more than?22 million items?last year. But despite a strong consumer preference, online retailers are not required to provide country-of-origin labeling. Scott Paul, president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, said while U.S.-made gifts may have a slightly higher price tag, they do not come with ethical baggage as some items made in other countries. "There's no tariffs paid on them. They're not necessarily subject to inspection," Paul outlined. "We know from reports that a lot of them are not made particularly well, that have some toxins in them, and may come from supply chains that have forced labor. " Around 20% of holiday shoppers will use Chinese apps such as TikTok and Temu this holiday season. The Alliance's online 2024?Holiday Gift Guide?lists products from more than 100 manufacturers and makers from all 50 states. Paul pointed out shoppers have a variety of reasons for seeking out U.S.-made products ranging from sustainability to ethical supply chains. He noted three in five Americans said they have made a conscious effort to buy American-made products in the past year. "It could be about patriotism and supporting local jobs but whatever the reason for it, it's actually something that I think unites a lot of people in our country," Paul asserted. "That's really important, especially as we get closer to the holidays." More than?363,000 small businesses?operate in Kentucky, employing 42% of workers in the Commonwealth, according to federal data.

2024 Made in America Holiday Gift Guide preview! Our annual collection of American-made gift ideas releases on Nov. 20, but you can get ready by getting to know the Smithey Ironware Company, a South Carolina manufacturer of cast iron and carbon steel cookware. Founder Isaac Morton created the company's cast iron pans on techniques perfected more than a century ago. Smithey also works with seven blacksmiths to make its line of carbon steel products. “You can get cast iron from China, which is very cheap but that is just not who we are,” said Smithey's Will Copenhaver. “We are focused on making the best cookware and honestly you can look at our price point and say they are higher than other cookware options. Ours is heirloom, American-made top quality.”
