Recent news might make you wonder about food manufacturing standards and what they are. It is important to note that bad news is often the exception, not the norm. There are indeed standards for growing agricultural products, irrigating, manufacturing, transporting, labeling, standards of identity for specific foods, standards for pieces of equipment, facilities, water, and air, and so much more. Here's my brief article about some of the standards employed in ensuring that the VAST MAJORITY of all food is indeed safe. Ensuring Your Safety, Every Step of the Way: The Role of Standards, Audits, and Conformity Assessments in the Design of Food Manufacturing Facilities https://lnkd.in/gqZzq4Gr

Absolutely loved speaking at today's event in Bogotá. The urgency for innovative solutions to address plastic pollution and its impact on both the environment and human health is undeniable. With climate change intensifying these effects, the need to act is now. Historically, there's often a lag between recognizing a problem and making the necessary changes to improve outcomes. While regulations aren't always the answer, the diverse global perspectives on policy mean this challenge will persist longer than it should. For example the first clinical study that demonstrated that Lead was toxic to humans and led to poor cognitive performance in children was published in 1969. The first ban on lead occurred in 1986 (Japan) and Algeria was the last country to ban lead in gasoline (2021). The solution to plastic pollution has three dimensions for success: Innovation, Standards, Regulation. A big shoutout to the audience for their excellent questions—truly made the presentation worthwhile!

List of Schools Potentially Impacted by Listeria Contaminated Chicken: BrucePac is expanding their recall from 10 million to nearly 11.7 million pounds of products over possible listeria contamination. The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says recalled items were distributed to numerous schools in in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Here’s the preliminary list of schools that received product. https://lnkd.in/ghnSmf6T Listeriosis is a serious illness and may even cause death. Schools and all outlets that received product are advised to check their freezers and return product to where they purchased it. Be sure to clean refrigerators, cutting boards and all kitchen implements thoroughly at all times and especially if there is a chance they may have come into contact with contaminated products.

Remember when your mom always said, “Wash your hands!”? Turns out, she was right (aren’t they always?). Today, let’s honor all those nagging reminders and keep our hands squeaky clean. A little soap, some water, and a bit of scrubbing can keep the cooties away and make Mom proud. Let’s spread clean hands and happy hearts all around! ?? There is no Advanced Sanitation without Basic Sanitation. ?? #GlobalHandwashingDay #MomKnowsBest #CleanHands

Pesticide labels are legally enforceable. Labels provide critical information on how to safely handle and use pesticide products.?This includes instructions on proper application, storage, and disposal to minimize risks to human health and the environment. Understanding how these chemicals should be used correctly can make the difference between producing safe product and not. Beatrice Maingi and Katie Joseph will join us in October’s Sanitation Development Group and present on this important topic. Bring your questions and join us at this event! When: Friday, October 11th Time: 9:00-10:00 AM Eastern Time/8:00-9:00 AM Central Time Location: Zoom by invitation only. Apply to join the Sanitation Development Group https://lnkd.in/deSzNhwP
