In the past week, I have been reflecting on my internship at the Allen Institute this summer. I am incredibly grateful for this learning opportunity. I was a Scientific Project Management Intern with the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics. Here are some highlights: Mentorship and Collaboration: I want to thank my mentor, Shelby Suckow, PhD, for her constant support and guidance throughout the 10 weeks. I also want to thank the Sci Ops team for sharing their knowledge and willingness to help. Thank you Macarena Sofía Aloi, PhD, Jim Berg, Tamara Zeric, Hannah Belski in addition to the many scientists, core service managers, and research associates I collaborated with. Incredible Science: I had the opportunity to work on several projects ranging from Neuromodulator Circuit Dynamics to Protein Localization with CRISPR and Multi-Scale Microscope development among others. I gained a deeper understanding of the neuroscience and biological basis of research projects in addition to my management work, which was unique to my role. High Impact Work: Being able to contribute to the success of a project was gratifying. Project budgeting was an example of how my work was accounted for in the large Institution-wide efforts that directly impacted scientists and their research. As an intern, being entrusted to deliver results while being able to ask for help was the best balance I could ask for. My summer in Seattle was a transformative experience I cannot thank the Allen Institute and Shelby enough. Thank you to everyone I had the chance to chat or directly work with. I look forward to applying what I learned from this internship to future opportunities.

??? #OpenScope - a shared observatory for neuroscience — is accepting letters of intent from external scientists until Sept. 10 at 5PM Pacific. Once a year, OpenScope accepts experimental proposals from external scientists following a Request for Proposals (RFPs). Proposals are reviewed by a panel of leading experts from the international community for their feasibility and scientific merit. The Allen Institute then carries out the selected in vivo?experiments in mice brains following verified, reproducible, and open protocols for?in vivo?single- and multi-area two photon calcium imaging and #Neuropixels electrophysiology. Data from completed projects is made available to project scientists during a one year period. Eventually all datasets are released to the entire community on DANDI Archive, as NWB files.
