Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, I am reflecting on the critical role of foundational #neuroscience research in addressing mental health disorders. Our team #AtAllenInstitute is deeply engaged in pioneering work, including cell type atlasing, connectomics, and cutting-edge whole brain imaging techniques in an effort to better understand the brain’s complexities and uncover the underlying mechanisms of mental health conditions. I’m hopeful that the work happening here at the Allen Institute and around the world is helping pave the way to new treatments and a brighter future.
关于我们
The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science. Founded by philanthropist and visionary Paul G. Allen, the Allen Institute is a recognized leader in large-scale, open science research. Its research institutes include the Allen Institute for Brain Science, Allen Institute for Cell Science, Allen Institute for Immunology and The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group. The Allen Institute believes that team science significantly benefits from the participation of diverse voices, experiences and backgrounds. High-quality science can only be produced when it includes different perspectives. We are committed to increasing diversity across every team and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for our open positions.

Congratulations to University of Washington biochemist David Baker on winning The Nobel Prize in Chemistry! Baker is honored for his pioneering work in computational protein design. We had the honor of learning more about his work a recent summit on artificial intelligence and biological modeling held at the Allen Institute. A proud moment for science and our hometown of Seattle! More from UW Medicine: https://lnkd.in/gh7-vDQP

Now accepting applications for the 2025 Shanahan Foundation Fellowship at the Interface of Data & Neuroscience. Apply by December 16 to join the Fall 2025 cohort. https://lnkd.in/di8yZ3Kn The Shanahan Foundation Fellowship at the Interface of Data and Neuroscience was created to provide freedom and flexibility to promising young scientists from diverse fields, as they work alongside neuroscientists at the Allen Institute and University of Washington. The three-year fellowship provides Ph.D.s from data science, computer science, physics, mathematics, and many other fields the mentorship and support to pursue their own research interests with our data.

Open science brings the lab to wherever researchers are. When COVID-19 made lab access difficult, Dr. Donghoon Shin and his team used the Visual Coding Dataset from the Allen Brain Observatory (https://lnkd.in/gY2c6VTD) to study visual perception. #SfN24 #OpenScienceStories #OpenScience

To understand the brain, we must understand its parts — the cells. On this day in 2021, our scientists and other #BICCN-supported teams announced a large step forward toward cataloging brain cell types with the most detailed map of the motor cortex ever. #studyBRAIN #SfN24
