Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, I am reflecting on the critical role of foundational #neuroscience research in addressing mental health disorders. Our team #AtAllenInstitute is deeply engaged in pioneering work, including cell type atlasing, connectomics, and cutting-edge whole brain imaging techniques in an effort to better understand the brain’s complexities and uncover the underlying mechanisms of mental health conditions. I’m hopeful that the work happening here at the Allen Institute and around the world is helping pave the way to new treatments and a brighter future.

GRANT ALERT – The Tiny Blue Dot Foundation has allocated $9M to fund up to 10 rigorous research projects related to a new concept called Perception Box, which explores subjective experiences, mental health, and strategies to help people flourish. Congratulations to University of Washington biochemist David Baker on winning The Nobel Prize in Chemistry! Baker is honored for his pioneering work in computational protein design. We had the honor of learning more about his work a recent summit on artificial intelligence and biological modeling held at the Allen Institute. The three-year fellowship provides Ph.D.s from data science, computer science, physics, mathematics, and many other fields the mentorship and support to pursue their own research interests with our data.
