Whole, healthy human brain data is now available on the Allen Brain Cell Atlas!????? This dataset includes more than three million cells sampled from dissections from three adult donors. Samples were assayed using single-nucleus RNA sequencing and the resulting cells were clustered and categorized by neurotransmitter type, region, anatomical division, sex, and subject. The new dataset includes non-neuronal and neuronal plots.? ? Access the neuronal data: https://lnkd.in/gzgifTRu? ? Access the nonneuronal data: https://lnkd.in/gMdRtvPD This research is funded by The National Institutes of Health Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative – a partnership of 10 Institutes and Centers with the common goal of developing innovative neurotechnologies. #studyBRAIN ?

We use our singular approach to uncover the mysteries of the human brain & share our resources with the world.
关于我们
Our mission at the Allen Institute for Brain Science is to accelerate the understanding of how the brain works in health and disease. Using a big science, team science, open science approach, we generate useful public resources, drive technological and analytical advances, and discover fundamental brain properties through integration of experiments, modeling and theory.

This year in April, our team hosted a new workshop at the institute, focused on using Allen Institute for Brain Science data and tools to study cell types. We had 29 attendees from different countries for an awesome 3 days in Seattle. (Applications are live for the 2025 cell types workshop https://lnkd.in/gfDfAtim) 6 months later, we’re learning about how our attendees having been using the knowledge, tools, and data from the workshop for their papers and grants (open science in action)! And some stopped by to see us at #sfn24 ?? Lauren Alfiler (Lucy) Emma Denholtz Abigail Chavez Kelsey McDermott honorable mentions Julieth Andrea Sierra Delgado, MD, M.Sc and Shivam Kant who we also saw!

“Because you can’t fix what you don’t understand, and having these connectomes is going to be key for understanding what is really tantamount to circuit disorders.” - John Ngai, Director of National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Anil Oza breaks down on STAT what it took to get a complete fruit fly connectome, why it's important, and which organism may be next: https://lnkd.in/gWcW97gg #SfN24

Exciting press release last week including a quote from #NIH BRAIN Initiative Director, Dr. John Ngai. #OpenScience making an impact. #studyBRAIN See the link below. Allen Institute for Brain Science
The BRAIN Initiative? Cell Atlas Network (BICAN) has launched its first major data release, marking a significant milestone in the ambitious effort to map the whole human brain. Funded by the The National Institutes of Health's #studyBRAIN Initiative, BICAN unites neuroscientists, computational biologists, and software engineers to create a comprehensive atlas of the human brain. Today’s release is the first from this global #OpenScience effort. ?? Link in comments.

I’m excited to share our recent publication which is now online at Cell Reports! In this work, we find many cell type and areal differences in ion channel gene expression, morphology and physiology in the primate neocortex and demonstrate that transcriptomically-defined layer 5 extratelecephalic projecting neurons indeed project to subcerebral areas, a property previously only inferred about this cell population. This work provides insight into how areal variation in cell type properties contributes to the specialized functional architecture of the primate neocortex. This unique dataset is also publicly available!??
