The debate over the proposed Wittmann railyard highlights the challenges of rail expansion and the need for thoughtful planning that considers community impact, sustainability, and balanced investment in both freight and passenger rail. Arizona is growing, and smart rail policy should prioritize connectivity, environmental responsibility, and long-term benefits for Arizonans. While freight rail is essential, expanding passenger rail options can reduce pressure on highways, improve mobility, and provide an environmentally friendly alternative to driving. How do you think Arizona should balance rail expansion and community concerns? FYI BNSF Railway Maricopa County #wittmann # https://lnkd.in/gbU6hYwh

All Aboard Arizona advocates for passenger rail and multimodel transportation in Arizona and the Southwest
关于我们
All Aboard Arizona (AAAz) an Arizona-based 501c3 non-profit, advocating for passenger rail services as an integral part of long-distance, regional, and local transportation systems. We were the first to propose light rail service between downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa, now a reality. We were early advocates of commuter rail service for the Phoenix area, as well as regional service between Phoenix and Tucson. These are now being seriously studied by state and local officials and agencies. We have long advocated daily Amtrak service through Southern Arizona and our efforts have assured us a seat at the table. In the past, the question was: “Will there be passenger rail?” Now that others - cities, elected officials, and business leaders - have joined in support of passenger rail service, we can focus on “What type(s) of passenger rail will exist?” and “Where will trains run?” Membership in All Aboard Arizona is open to all interested in public transportation, climate change, smart growth and rural/urban planning. ?????State support of rail projects is key to building capacity and serving communities. Successful global and domestic rail systems have more government support, not less. FYI- Rail Passengers Association Amtrak Arizona Department of Transportation Arizona Office of Tourism Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Pima Association of Governments Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority
No, America should not privatize Amtrak "like China." But we could learn a thing or two from their rail success. (Spoiler: it's largely state-funded.)

If we privatized Amtrak today, who would ensure routes like the Southwest Chief or Sunset Limited still run? Who would serve communities that aren’t profitable enough for a private company? Privatization isn’t the answer—real investment is. If we want better trains in Arizona and across America, we need: ?? Faster, more reliable service—which means funding infrastructure. ?? Fair treatment for passenger rail—which means enforcing laws requiring Amtrak trains to get priority over freight. ?? More rail options—not fewer. https://lnkd.in/gj3EsxyC
Elon Musk today suggested that Amtrak should be privatized. But what would that mean for Montana, North Dakota, and rural and tribal communities across America? Here’s the truth: Private railroads already abandoned passenger service once. That’s why Congress created Amtrak in 1971—to preserve rail travel when private companies walked away. But losing passenger rail isn’t just inconvenient—it’s dangerous. * Not everyone can drive. Seniors, students, and people with disabilities rely on trains. * Flying isn’t an option for everyone. Not every town has an airport, and not every budget allows for expensive flights. * Winter driving is hazardous. In Montana, North Dakota, and the Upper Midwest, snow and ice make roads impassable for weeks at a time. Musk is right about one thing: U.S. trains should be better. But privatization won’t fix the real problems: * Passenger rail isn’t unprofitable—it’s essential. Highways and airports get federal funding, but trains get left behind. * Freight congestion causes delays for passengers. Federal law says Amtrak trains should get priority, but this isn’t consistently enforced. * Trains connect rural and tribal communities to major cities for work, medical care, and education. Instead of debating privatization, we should ask how to strengthen and expand rail service so that no community is left behind. #PassengerRail #Amtrak #Transportation #RuralAmerica #Infrastructure https://lnkd.in/gXCgcM3g

Protect Arizona’s Rail Future: No Cuts to FRA Staffing! All Aboard Arizona is proud to join 21 other organizations in urging Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to prevent staffing cuts at the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). These cuts would directly impact rail projects in Arizona and across the nation, which are critical to expanding passenger service, improving rail safety, and strengthening our economy. The FRA plays a vital role in administering funding and approvals for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which has already committed billions to rail improvements. Reducing FRA personnel would only create further delays and slow much-needed progress. Arizona’s rail future depends on efficient federal administration. We urge Secretary Duffy to protect these mission-critical roles and ensure rail development stays on track. #AllAboardArizona #PassengerRail #RailAdvocacy #Arizona #FRA #Infrastructure #PublicTransportation #RailDevelopment FYI Jennifer Toth Greg Stanton Kate Gallego Regina Romero City of Tucson City of Phoenix Arizona Department of Transportation Arizona PIRG please share.

Ensuring the Future of U.S. Rail Projects: A Call to Action I am proud to join 21 other organizations in urging Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to prevent cuts to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) staff. These cuts could significantly delay critical passenger and freight rail projects across the country, which are essential for economic recovery, infrastructure improvement, and the safety of communities nationwide. The FRA's ability to oversee and administer the $66 billion in rail funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) is at risk. With ongoing rail construction activities under threat, it is more important than ever that we stand together to preserve the critical workforce necessary to drive the progress we've already started. The states, local agencies, and railroads rely on a responsive and efficient federal partner to carry out these vital initiatives. Let’s ensure we maintain the support needed to make our rail projects a success. #RailAdvocacy #PassengerRail #Transportation #FRA #Infrastructure #GovernmentEfficiency #RPA #PublicPolicy #Railroads #Transportation #Urbanism #publictransit FYI and thanks to our Rail Passengers Association?Environmental Law & Policy Center Virginians for High Speed Rail?Virginia Transit Association Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers New Jersey Association of Railroad Passengers Texas Rail Advocates?WESTERN PENNSYLVANIANS FOR PASSENGER RAIL EMPIRE STATE PASSENGERS ASSOCIATION INC High Speed Rail Alliance All Aboard Ohio Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN RAIL COALITION All Aboard Wisconsin WISCONSIN ASSOCIATION OF RAILROAD PASSENGERS LTD Rail Passengers Association of California and Nevada (RailPAC) Southern Environmental Law Center TRAINRIDERS NORTHEAST Missourians for Responsible Transportation Railtowns Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway All Aboard Arizona

"As a for-profit company, Amtrak fails ... spectacularly. As a government agency, created half a century ago to carry out a public purpose recognized in law and in Supreme Court rulings, it is a spectacular success worth celebrating, supporting, and building up." - Jim Mathews of Rail Passengers Association https://lnkd.in/g5d-Rjp6

“We conveyed to the U.S. Department of Transportation our belief that the vast majority of the transportation programs under USDOT’s jurisdiction should be exempt from the OMB memo,” explained Jim Tymon, AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials)’s executive director. Subsequently, on January 29, OMB issued a new memo entitled “M-25-14” that rescinded the “M-25-13” memo that called for a temporary pause on all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all federal financial assistance. “AASHTO will continue to work with USDOT to ensure that federal funding to states and related project management functions are fully restored,” Tymon noted. https://lnkd.in/giz6_89d

A Rail Network Worth Fighting For - Fast Company Imagine an Amtrak that truly serves the nation. Arizona and the Southwest stand to gain tremendously from investments in expanded service, including the long-overdue return of the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans and a Phoenix-Tucson-Los Angeles corridor. But instead of making passenger rail an absolute transportation priority, we see constant political games with funding. Just last week, the Trump administration’s OMB withheld rail funds, only later suggesting they’d release them. That’s no way to run a transportation network. Arizona deserves frequent, reliable, and expanded rail service.
