It was a whirlwind 24-hour trip that found all 60 Metallica Scholars colleges together at Lone Star College. ?We spent much of our time sharing ideas on support for trade education. Members of the AWMH Advisory Board were there to dive in with us, ??looking at you Chris Anthony, Sarah Politis, and Bill Moore - thanks for making the trip! ??The leadership of Peter Delgrosso & Edward Frank was palpable, with Jen Worth & Wayne Wheeler keeping us on track in true American Association of Community Colleges fashion! ??With all schools present, our partners at Wolverine Worldwide, Lowe's Foundation, and Upstaging, Inc. helped lead the conversation around finding ways to engage more deeply around this important work. ???? In July, we announced our expansion of the Metallica Scholars Initiative into all 50 states and Guam. One of our newest schools is out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Local station KTUL featured the Dean of Mathematics & Engineering at Tulsa Community College, Dr. Shiela Youngblood, on their Living Oaklahoma program. We’re proud to announce our new partnership with Lowe's Foundation which will help meet the rising demand for skilled trade education at the community college level. The Lowe’s Foundation’s $500,000 grant will benefit hundreds of students across five schools through our Metallica Scholars Initiative. This funding will increase support for training, equipment, recruiting, and wraparound services. Our partners at Milwaukee Area Technical College hosted a “Heavy Metal Tour" to expose high schoolers to career paths they might not have considered before and introduce them to opportunities in manufacturing. “The mission of Metallica’s All Within My Hands aligns perfectly with our mission, which is to offer an education that transforms lives, industry, and community. This funding will help students enroll in our high-quality, in-demand programs that meet local employer and community needs, leading to careers that provide family-supporting wages and better lives.” - MATC President Vicki J.
