Alkeus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company developing transformative therapeutics to address serious, progressive eye diseases that lead to blindness. Our lead compound, ALK-001, is an oral investigational drug being developed for the treatment of Stargardt disease (STGD) and Geographic Atrophy (GA) secondary to dry age-related macular degeneration. ALK-001 is a selectively-deuterated form of Vitamin A that slows the dimerization of Vitamin A, which is implicated in STGD, and has shown statistically-significant and clinically-meaningful efficacy in the TEASE-1 Phase 2 clinical trial. Based on these results, ALK-001 has been granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the treatment of Stargardt Disease.

November is National Family Caregivers Month. I want to take a moment to highlight how caregivers make a difference in the lives of those facing a wide range of serious and life-threatening conditions. Usually behind the scenes, family caregivers can include partners, parents, siblings, adult children, teens and close friends. Over the course of my career I've had the opportunity to meet many incredibly inspiring family caregivers supporting people living with diseases such as ALS, MS, Parkinson's, epilepsy and Stargardt disease. November 1 marks the celebration of Diwali, a new year's festival and one of the most popular holidays in South Asia. Diwali is also sometimes referred to as “Deepavali,” which means "rows of lighted lamps." The lamps, or diyas, are often used to decorate houses, shops and public places.
