What Projects Are Eligible for PA BEAD Funding? We’ve covered the types of organizations who can apply for Pennsylvania BEAD funding, but it's essential to understand what kinds of projects qualify for funding. The primary focus is on expanding broadband service to unserved and underserved areas, ensuring that every Pennsylvanian has access to high-speed internet. Eligible projects must meet these key criteria: Broadband Network Deployment or Upgrades: Projects must target unserved areas (those with speeds less than 25 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload) or underserved areas (those with speeds less than 100 Mbps download/20 Mbps upload). Coverage of at Least 95% of the Locations in Your BSA: Each project must serve at least 95% of the Broadband Serviceable Locations (BSLs) within the chosen BSA (Broadband Serviceable Area). The goal is to maximize coverage and impact in the area you’re addressing. Meeting Minimum Speed Requirements: To qualify, your project must bring broadband services that meet or exceed speed benchmarks of 25/3 Mbps for unserved areas and 100/20 Mbps for underserved areas. To increase your chances of success in securing BEAD funding, ensure your project aligns with these criteria and demonstrates the ability to bridge the digital divide in a meaningful way. Who Can Apply for BEAD Funding in Pennsylvania? The Pennsylvania BEAD application window is fast approaching, and understanding who qualifies to apply is critical. Eligible applicants include: ?Internet Service Providers (ISPs): Both large and small, as long as they are registered with the FCC. ?Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborations between government entities and private companies with the technical knowledge and ability to deploy broadband infrastructure. ?Non-Profit Organizations: Organizations that focus on technology, infrastructure development, or digital equity are eligible. ?Local Governments: Municipalities and counties that want to expand broadband within their jurisdictions. ?Utility Companies: Electric cooperatives, water authorities, and other utilities can leverage their existing infrastructure to deploy broadband. To qualify, your organization must demonstrate financial capability and have the technical expertise to design, build, and maintain broadband networks.
