Alio is noninvasive remote monitoring for dialysis patient complications, providing actionable data at the right time

关于我们

Alio's SmartPatch is a multi-metric wearable and the world's first non-invasive potassium monitor. The Alio? Platform, powered by the SmartPatch, hub, and portal, is FDA-cleared to monitor potassium, hematocrit, hemoglobin, auscultation, heart rate and skin temperature – all without the need for blood draws, finger prick or microneedles. Alio's technology and algorithm automatically calibrates for each individual patient and requires no additional action to continuously collect these metrics. Currently indicated for hemodialysis patients, the Alio Platform dramatically improves the technology solutions available to clinicians while providing patients with peace of mind. Stay tuned for additional metrics and developments coming soon.

?? New Manuscript ?? A recently accepted manuscript in the Clinical Kidney Journal, titled Remote Management of Anaemia in Patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease Using a Wearable, Non-Invasive Sensor, highlights the innovative approach Alio is taking to improve patient care. Key points from the manuscript: ?? Across a diverse patient population, the SmartPatch demonstrated close alignment with Hb and Hct levels obtained from gold standard blood draw measurements. ?? When considered alongside data from previous studies on FDA-cleared non-invasive Hb and Hct devices, the SmartPatch showed superior accuracy compared to other similar devices. ?? High-frequency, remote monitoring by the SmartPatch could enable better management of Hb variability, optimizing ESA dosing and reducing the risks associated with Hb cycling, much like how CGMs have improved diabetes care. ?? The SmartPatch aligns with the growing trend toward home dialysis by offering a "set it and forget it" solution, promoting patient-centred care and expanding access to remote anemia management. ?? Article of the Month from the VAS Young committee This research article highlights that physical exams, such as HIPA (History, Inspection, Palpation, Auscultation), can be as effective as ultrasound or angiography in detecting stenosis in hemodialysis AV fistulas but are often underutilized. It's exciting to see studies like this emphasize the value of innovations like the SmartPatch ??, which supports this approach by automatically collecting auscultation data and alerting clinicians to atypical acoustic readings, providing early warnings for potential issues and bridging gaps in care. ?? ?? Article of the month?? We highlight ‘Physical examination of the hemodialysis arteriovenous fistula to detect early dysfunction’ by Abreo et al. ?? Key points ?? Physical examination is often underutilized (and unfortunately inadequately performed) but can be as effective as doppler ultrasound and angiogram in detecting stenosis! So Remember HIPA: History, Inspection, Palpitation and Auscultation https://lnkd.in/eGNJG7xY

This recent study from Mass General Hospital, published by Nature, shows that patients' typical Complete Blood Count (CBC) values, or 'setpoints,' predict health outcomes better than population averages. Key findings from the study include: ?? Setpoint Stability: CBC setpoints remain stable over decades, even after acute events, and are minimally influenced by age, sex, race, or ethnicity. ?? Disease and Mortality Risk: Long-term outcomes, such as 10-year mortality and risks for diabetes, cardiovascular events, and kidney disease, are better predicted by individual setpoints than by population averages. The SmartPatch, a clinical-grade, non-invasive device, is uniquely positioned to support the evidence presented in this study, advancing individualized health monitoring. It provides a comprehensive view of key hematology parameters, including hemoglobin and hematocrit—two of the most critical indices in a CBC—along with electrolyte levels and other biomarkers. Previous research by Alio has shown our ability to quantify platelets and WBCs, as well. A complete CBC, done non-invasively, may be in the near future. By tracking individual trends and adapting to each patient's unique setpoints, the SmartPatch automatically notifies clinical care teams of subtle changes early, improving chronic condition management in line with the study's findings. ?? Since its introduction, remote patient monitoring (RPM) has been met with thoughtful caution, prompting questions from healthcare teams: 'Can this provide better insights, or will it just contribute to alarm fatigue?' 'Can it fit into our already overburdened workflows? Do we really need more devices?' These concerns are understandable in a system where patient monitoring has long been fragmented and episodic. For decades, monitoring has resembled using multiple polaroid cameras ?? —capturing isolated snapshots like blood tests, vital sign checks, or auditory findings at specific moments. While these snapshots provide valuable data: changes between tests, subtle trends or early warning signs often go unnoticed. Guided by these early conversations, the ?? SmartPatch has helped advance RPM beyond fragmented snapshots from multiple devices. By delivering a real-time, clinical-grade view of hematology parameters, electrolyte levels, and other key biomarkers—all non-invasively and through a single device—it surpasses systems traditionally limited to basic vital sign monitoring. ?? For the healthcare team, our intelligent automation supports personalized care while reducing clinician burden. Wearable sensors collect clinical-grade biometric data ?? Data automatically transmitted to the cloud ?? AI analyzes the data, identifying outliers, complications, and trends ?? Results are integrated into a portal, with automated alerts for clinicians when data falls outside personalized ranges ?? For patients, this means ongoing monitoring with minimal effort. Simply wearing the SmartPatch lets the platform handle the rest. As we look to 2025, we remain committed to personalizing RPM, delivering tailored insights that provide care teams with a clearer, more complete picture of patient health while enhancing the care experience for all.
