Hazelight continues to deliver outstanding co-op experiences, seamlessly blending gameplay and storytelling. With each game, they have pushed the boundaries of co-op and gameplay innovation. Split Fiction sold 1 million copies in its first 48 hours and another million just five days later. According to our estimates and sales projections, the game is set to hit the 3 million mark in less than a week. For each copy sold, there are two players, meaning the game has already been played by over 4 million players. Taking a closer look at the player audience, it’s no surprise that Split Fiction has the biggest player overlap with It Takes Two. However, the second most overlapping game is Black Myth: Wukong. Why? Because more than 40% of the player base is from China. This is also reflected in the major spikes in concurrent users on Steam, which consistently occur during evening hours in Asia. Less than a month after releasing Split Fiction, Hazelight is already working on their next game. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next!

?? Assassin’s Creed Shadows is just a few days away! ?? The game already has 87K pre-orders on Steam, as of last night. To put this in perspective, Monster Hunter Wilds had 1.4 million preorders four days before its launch. While Monster Hunter Wilds had a hype-building beta, it’s pretty clear Monster Hunter will be the quarter’s biggest-hitting AAA game – on Steam anyway. But what about PlayStation? Assassin’s Creed Shadows is poised to make a bigger splash there. We’re about to launch our PS5 pre-order numbers, so we have you covered there, too. Back to Steam. Just 16% of the gamers who wishlisted AC: Shadows played Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Steam. And even fewer played Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Why? Because Valhalla didn’t launch on Steam until two years after it’s launch on the Epic Game Store, and Mirage came a year after other platforms. There’s a lot riding on Assassin’s Creed Shadows performing well for Ubisoft, so it’s no wonder why they’re launching it on Steam on day one this time. Track the launch for yourself in Alinea’s Platform! DM me for a demo. And if you’re at GDC, you can get a free trial. ??

February 2025 – Top 10 New Releases on Steam ?? February was packed with major releases from beloved franchises, with Monster Hunter Wilds(MHW) leading the way, generating $93.2 million despite launching on the last day of the month. The Monster Hunter series has already surpassed 100 million copies sold worldwide and MHW is one of the most anticipated releases on 2025. It’s no surprise that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has become one of the most acclaimed games of 2025 so far and is a strong contender for Game of the Year. In February alone, it grossed $67.5 million on Steam. With nearly 1.5 million copies sold on PC and 35% of total sales coming from consoles, the game is approaching 2.5 million copies sold overall. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII generated $43.5 million in February despite receiving mixed player reviews. The franchise has surpassed 70 million copies sold and accumulated over 1 billion hours of playtime across all platforms. Other notable mentions include Avowed, which also launched on Xbox Game Pass, grossing $7.2 million on Steam, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which debuted on February 20th and generated $5.6 million in gross revenue on Steam. #GamingAnalytics #SteamData #GameDev

GTA VI is (maybe) just around the corner! There are a lot of rumors about a possible delay, mainly due to the lack of marketing and content reveals. However, during Corsair's recent conference call, the VP of Finance mentioned that GTA VI is expected to launch on PC in early 2026. This strengthens the case that the console release may still be on track. Diving into PlayStation hardware sales, it’s clear that GTA V has been a major part of the PlayStation ecosystem. But an interesting question arises: Did GTA V drive PlayStation hardware sales, or did PlayStation’s growing player base fuel GTA’s success? With 75M PS5 hardware units sold so far, it will be interesting to follow how GTA VI impacts future hardware sales.
